HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Library Board - 01/22/2026 - Regular1A CTHF Ny CITY OF THE COLONY LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES Ca, by, �h, Lake THURSDAY, JANUARY 22, 2026 7:00 PM The Regular Session of the Library Board of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called to order at 7:03 p.m. on the 22nd day of January 2026 at City Hall, 6800 Main Street, The Colony, Texas, with the following roll call: Sandi Gehrke, Vice Chair Cynthia Worthen Margaret Heermans Kathleen Linch Joanna Krueger Jarrett Davis Maria Joseph, Chair Judy Ensweiler Megan Charters Karla Storm Place 1 Present Place 2 Present Place 3 Absent Place 4 Present Place 5 Absent Place 6 Present Place 7 Present Council Liaison Absent Staff Liaison Present Recording Secretary Present 1.0 ROUTINE ANNOUNCEMENTS, RECOGNITIONS AND PROCLAMATIONS Director Charters reminded Board Members there would not be a February Library Board meeting and to RSVP for the Boards and Commissions Dinner on February 26 at 6:30 p.m. Due to inclement weather, the Library may close on Saturday, January 24 and Sunday, January 25. City Manager Troy Powell will inform Library staff before closing on Friday evening, January 23. The Library may also be used as an emergency warming shelter during the winter storm. 2.0 CITIZEN INPUT This portion of the meeting is to allow up to five (5) minutes per speaker with a maximum of thirty (30) minutes for items not posted on the current agenda. The board may not discuss these items, but may respond with factual data or policy information, or place the item on a future agenda. Those wishing to speak shall submit a Request Form to the board secretary. No report. 3.0 CONSENT AGENDA The Consent Agenda contains items which are routine in nature and will be acted upon in one motion. Items may be removed from this agenda for separate discussion by a board member. 3.1 Consider approval of minutes of Library Board meeting held December 4, 2025. The Board reviewed the minutes. Motion to approve the above consent agenda item — Gehrke; second by Linch; motion passed with all ayes. REGULAR SESSION of the LIBRARY BOARD Minutes Meeting Date: 01/22/2026 Page - 2 4.0 REGULAR AGENDA ITEMS 4.1 Discuss and receive reports regarding the progress on Library Board Goals and Projects for 2025- A. Continue to maintain legislative awareness of pertinent library issues. No report. B. Continue to assist in representing TCPL at library, school, and community activities. Director Charters and officers of Friends of The Colony Public Library volunteered at the Holiday in the Park community event on December 16. C. Initiate contact and work to form partnerships in the community to introduce TCPL's services and resources and to serve as an information source for the community. In partnership with the Convention & Visitor's Bureau, the Library began planning the 2026 The Colony Summer Kickoff, which will be held in the Annex on June 6. D. Compile input and receive approval from Library Board on Strategic Plan revisions. The Colony Public Library Strategic Plan 2026-2030 is ready to approve. 4.2 Discuss and consider the approval of Library Board goals and projects for 2026, The Board reviewed and discussed new goals and projects for 2026 and agreed to keep goals A through C the same and revised goal D to, "Discuss and approve Library policy updates as necessary. Motion to approve the above changes to Library Board goals and projects for 2026 — Gehrke; second by Worthen; motion passed with all ayes. 4.3 Discuss, consider, and approve the 2026-2030 The Colony Public Library Strategic Plan. The Board discussed the plan and made corrections. Motion to approve The Colony Public Library Strategic Plan 2026-2030 with corrections — Davis; second by Gehrke; motion passed all ayes. 4.4 Receive a presentation and discuss staff updates regarding public relations events, programs, services, and community partnerships. Director Charters reviewed January's program and event statistics with the Board. Friends of The Colony Public Library will meet February 12 at 6 p. m. in the Library Conference Room. The Friends are seeking nominees to hold the office of President in FY 26-27 (starting May 2026). 5.0 ADJOURNMENT And with no further business to discuss the meeting was adjourned at 7: 50 p. m.
