HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Keep The Colony Beautiful - 01/29/2026 - RegularKEEP THE COLONY BEAUTFUL BOARD MEETING MINUTES —j THURSDAY, January 29th, 2026 After determining that a quorum was present, the Keep The Colony Beautiful Board of the City of The Colony, Texas convened into a regular session that was held on Thursday, January 29, 2026 in the City Council Chambers located in City Hall, 6053 Main Street, The Colony, Texas, at which time the following items were addressed: Board Members Present: Board Chairman Pam De Santiago, Board Vice Chairman Cody Carpenter, Board Secretary Jane Hughey, Lubna Rizvi , Jenna Nowlin Board Members not Present: Michelle Potts Staff Members Present: Danny Dill, Community Outreach Officer; Iris Browder, Community Image Director 1.0 CALL TO ORDER Meeting called to order at 6:01 p.m. 2.0 CITIZENS INPUT None 3.0 MINUTES 3.1 Approve minutes from, October 30, 2025 meeting Motion to approve the minutes made by board member Hughey, second by board Vice Chairman Carpenter. Motion carried 5-0. 4.0 DISCUSSION AND CONSIDERATION 4.1 Update on the Fall cleanup, November 8, 2025 1) Board member Nowlin and Board Vice Chairman Carpenter attended. Board member Nowlin stated that it was well attend by students. 2) The high school NHS group was well represented and the new principal at Lake View was there along with Lakeview students. He wants to work with us and getting more people to participate. 4.2 Update on Art Contest 1) Board member Nowlin stated that we had 22 entries, which is a very good increase from our eight the previous year. 2) The entries were better and you could tell a lot of time was spent on the projects. 3) Republic trash was an enthusiastic supporter and she said that next year she would do something bigger and better. 4) Lots of great pictures taken that can be used to advertise for next year. 5) We are trying to have the winner's names mentioned at the tree lighting next year and perhaps coordinate to be able to present the award at that event. 4.3 Discuss participation in the Multi -city Shoreline Clean Up 1) The Keep Little Elm Beautiful group is proposing a multi -city group clean up the entire Shoreline Trail pick from Little Elm all the way around the lake. 2) Proposed date is May 16-17 of this year. 3) There would be opening and closing ceremonies commemorating this at the Little Elm Park. 4) They're asking for participation, volunteers, coordinators and vendor support. 5) They are hoping for this to be a very big Texas wise story. 4.4 Arbor Day event 1) Parks and Rec will be informed that we will be participating in that event. April 25 from 10-1 in the Hawaiian Falls parking lot. 4.5 February Board meeting 1) Due to the Awards banquet occurring on our regular meeting date, February's board meeting will be on Wednesday, February 25 at 6:00 pm. 4.6 Summer Kick Off 1) Summer Kick Off is Saturday, June 6 with 8:30 setup to 1:30 cleanup. Located at the Annex building. 4.7 Back to School Bash Will be July 22 from 5:00 — 8:30 in the Annex. 4.8 Raptor Event Need to get two dates from Blackland Prairie group to set the date. If on same date as the shoreline cleanup, we should be able to cover both events. 4.9 National Night out October 6 4.10 Owl & Prowl Board member Rizvi will contact Blackland Prairie and propose October 21 or 28 for possible dates of event. 4.11 Fall Cleanup Setting date for November 7 with November 14 as rain date. 4.12 Christmas in TC Recycle Art Contest Date set to correspond to Christmas tree light on December 5, announcing winners at the lighting. Will do timing so that all projects can be seen after awards are given out before the project can be picked up. 4.13 Flower Seed Pods Board member Rizvi will contact Blackland Prairie and see if it is possible to get the wild flower seed pods to be used in a March event to promote beautification. 5.0 Adjournment Meetin adjourned at 6:38 p.m. 1 Pamela De Santiago, Chairman Jane Hughey, Secretary Danny Dill, Recording Secretary
