VETERANS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
WEDNESDAY, MAY 2% 2024

TO ALL INTERESTED PERSONS:
The regular session of the VETERANS ADVISORY COMMITTEE of the City of The Colony,
Texas was called to order at 6:32 p.m. on the 29th day of May 2024 at City Hall, 6800 Main
Street., The Colony, TX, with the following roll call:
Richard Boyer, Mayor
Allen Harris, Committee Member
Randy Dull, Committee Member
Bob Bourbon, Committee Member
Scott Klein, Committee Member
Mary Garcia, Committee Member
Jackie Kopsa, Staff
Chrystie Gibbs, Recording Secretary
Dan Rainey, Council Liaison
Chloe Hancock, Staff Liaison
Brant Shallenburger, Staff
And with five committee members present, a quorum was established and the following items
were addressed:
1.0 ROUTINE ANNOUNCEMENTS
1.1 Call to order
The meeting was called to order at 6:32 pm.
1.2 Pledge of Allegiance to the United States Flag
1.3 Salute to the Texas flag
1.4 General Announcements
2.0 CITIZENINPUT
None.
3.0 CONSENT AGENDA
None.
4.0 REGULAR AGENDA ITEMS
4.1 Discuss purpose and mission of the Veteran's Advisory Committee.
Mayor discussed the committee's mission and purpose in detail.
4.2 Discuss Veteran's Advisory Committee meeting dates.
It was discussed that the committee would meet a minimum of 3 times per year.
4.3 Discuss a proposed Ordinance creating the Veteran's Advisory Committee
Mayor discussed the proposed Ordinance in detail.
Board recommended meeting dates as needed with no less than three times per
year.
Board recommended an exception to the "one board" rule allowing CDC
members to also serve on VAC.
4.4 Discuss Rules & Expectations for City Volunteer Boards and Committees
Brant discussed rules & expectations in detail including Open Meetings Training
and Staff Liaison role.
4.5 Board to request items to be placed on a future agenda.
Selection of officers (Chairman and vice-chairman).
Selection of Dates for remainder of 2024 and 2025.
Open discussion on Committee's plan of action moving forward..
Mary requested we discuss implementing a Veteran's survey for residents.
Discussion regarding American Heroes participation
