The Regular Session of the Library Board of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called to order at 7:00
p.m. on the 28th day of August 2025 at City Hall, 6800 Main Street, The Colony, Texas, with the following
roll call:

1.0 ROUTINE ANNOUNCEMENTS, RECOGNITIONS AND PROCLAMATIONS
No report.
2.0 CITIZENINPUT
This portion of the meeting is to allow up to five (5) minutes per speaker with a maximum of
thirty (30) minutes for items not posted on the current agenda. The board may not discuss these
items, but may respond with factual data or policy information, or place the item on a future
agenda. Those wishing to speak shall submit a Request Form to the board secretary.
No report.
3.0 CONSENT AGENDA
The Consent Agenda contains items which are routine in nature and will be acted upon in one
motion. Items may be removed from this agenda for separate discussion by a board member.
3.1 Consider approval of minutes of Library Board meeting held July 24, 2025.
The Board reviewed the minutes. Motion to approve the above consent agenda item — Worthen;
second by Heermans; motion passed with all ayes.
4.0 REGULAR AGENDA ITEMS
4.1 Discuss and receive reports regarding the progress on Library Board Goals and Projects for 2025:

A. Continue to maintain legislative awareness of pertinent library issues.
Director Charters informed the Board that SB412 will go into effect September 1.
B. Continue to assist in representing TCPL at library, school, and community activities.
The permanent Story Walk at Ridgepointe Park/Shoreline Trail has been completed. Girl
Scout Troop 2468, FOTCPL, and TCPL held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday,
August 16. Board Member Sandi Gehrke, Council Member Schrag, and Director Charters
attended.
TCPL's Spice Club Pop -Up: Hot Sauce Throwdown was Saturday, August 16. Board
Member Sandi Gehrke assisted and Council Member Wade attended.
The Colony will celebrate its 50`x' anniversary in 2027. Director Charters will co-chair
the planning committee for the anniversary events.
C. Initiate contact and work to form partnerships in the community to introduce TCPL's
services and resources and to serve as an information source for the community.
TCPL will be partnering with Novel Therapy for quarterly meetings this year and Sewcial
Creatives will partner with TCPL in teaching sewing classes.
D. Compile input and receive approval from Library Board on Strategic Plan revisions.
TCPL received 173 responses to the 2026-2030 Strategic Planning Survey. Board
members received copies of the compiled survey responses to review.
4.2 Receive a presentation and discuss staff updates regarding public relations events, programs,
services, and community partnerships.
Director Charters reviewed July's program and event statistics and Summer Reading statistics
with the Board.
Upcoming Early Literacy Activities: Weekly Early Literacy Story Times on Tuesdays and
Thursdays. Little Nugget Story Time at Chick-fil-A will be Monday, September 8. Little Builders,
building with blocks and more to develop hand -eye coordination and fine motor skills, will be
Friday, August 29.
Upcoming Family Activities: Art Club Kits: Frida Kahlo, Homeschool Huddle: Instrument
Petting Zoo, a hands-on experience with a variety of musical instruments provided by Plano
Symphony Orchestra, and Silent Disco Family Dance Party.
Upcoming Teen Activities: Hunger Games Survival Skills.

Upcoming Adult Activities: Virtual Author Talks, Social Safety and Support, Legal Aid of
North West Texas, Medicare Education Seminar, The History of Valley Forge, Boardgame
Brunch, NASA: Artemis 2, Understanding Your VA Benefits with Denton County Veterans
Service Office, Silent Disco After Dark, and Sewing Basics with Sewcial Creatives.
4.3 Receive a presentation and discuss updates regarding Friends of The Colony Public Library
activities.
Friends of The Colony Public Library will meet on Thursday, September 11 at 6:00 p.m. in the
Library Conference Room.
FOTCPL fundraisers include SCHEELS Celebrates North Texas Giving Day on September 13
from 5:00 — 9:00 p.m. and Junior Book Sale on Saturday, September 27 from 10:00 a.m. — 4:00
p.m.
5.0 ADJOURNMENT
And with no further business to discuss the meeting was adjourned at 7:38 p.m.
