RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY OBJECTING
TO THE PASSAGE OF THE INTERNET TAX FREEDOM ACT
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of The Colony, Texas, is concerned about our
"Main Street" retail merchants and their ability to be competitive with mail order and Internet
companies; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of The Colony, Texas, is concerned about the
eff'ects on state and municipal government's ability to continue services to our citizens if the Internet
Tax Freedom Act is passed; and
WHEREAS, the Small Cities Council of the National League of Cities represents more than
75% of the NLC membership and that Council did adopt a resolution on March 8, 1998 opposing the
passage of the Internet Tax Freedom Act; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of The Colony, Texas, desires to join with the
Small Cities Council &the National League of Cities in voicing opposition to this Act;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of The
Colony, Texas, hereby opposes the Internet Tax Freedom Act and requests our legislators to vote
against this devastating action against the nation's cities and their local retail merchants.
