A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS, ENCOURAGING THE TEXAS REHABILITATION COMMISSION AND TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES TO OPERATE LOCAL OFFICES, PLEDGING SUPPORT FOR LOCAL OFFICE LOCATIONS AND REQUESTING RECONSIDERATION OF THE DECISION TO CLOSE LOCAL OFFICES BY THE TEXAS REHABILITATION COMMISSION AND TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES WHEREAS, the Texas Rehabilitation Commission (TRC) and Texas Department of Human Services (TDHS) have maintained local offices in Lewisville for several years while providing much needed service delivery to local residents; and WHEREAS, Lewisville has been designated an Urban Area by the U.S. Census Bureau; and WHEREAS, the population requiring the services of the TRC and TDHS will continue to grow at a faster rate in southern Denton County than anywhere else in the county; and WHEREAS, this population often experiences difficulty in obtaining timely and reliable transportation outside the immediate urban area; and WHEREAS, transportation services to state offices in Denton are limited and will crete unnecessary hardship for those persons seeking service delivery; and WHEREAS, Lewisville has abundant real estate opportunities for office locations; and WHEREAS, the State of Texas had previously bid for construction of a combined agency office to be located in Lewisville, but the TRC and TDHS have decided to consolidate offices in Denton instead; and WHEREAS, the population of The Colony is serviced by the TRC and TDHS offices in located in Lewisville; and WHEREAS, the decision to relocate these offices to Denton would place a great hardship on certain residents of The Colony; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of The Colony, Texas: Section 1. That the City Council of the City of The Colony, Texas, hereby encourages the TRC and TDHS to continue to operate local offices in the City of Lewisville to serve the population of the Greater Lewisville Area, thereby avoiding undue hardship to this population. Section 2. The City Council of the City of The Colony hereby pledges its support for local office locations for both agencies and will work with both agencies in a constructive manner to make a Lewisville location feasible. Section 3. The City Council of the City of The Colony formally requests that both the TRC and the TDHS reconsider any decision to dose local offices and instead, further evaluate the service demand in the Lewisvi, Jl~are and retain a local office presence.
