HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 96-14 CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS ORIGINAL A RESOLUTION OF CITY COUNCIL OF THE CiTY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS SUPPORTING THE CONCEPT OF AN AREA OR MULTI-COUNTY TOLLWAY AUTHORITY TO CONTINUE THE DEVELOPMENT, CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION OF TOLLWAYS IN THE DALLAS-FT. WORTH REGION AND ASSUME EXISTING ASSETS AND OPERATIONS OF THE TEXAS TURNPIKE AUTHORITY (TI'A) IN THE DALLAS-FT. WORTH AREA WHEREAS, the mobility needs for the Dallas-Ft. Worth area far exceed local, State, and Federal funding potential over the next two decades; and WHEREAS, efforts to maintain thc economic growth and vitality of The Colony and the entire region depend on the ability of citizens to move into and through all the region in an efficient and timely manner, considering surrounding issues of air quality and cost effectiveness; and WHEREAS, discussions indicate the existing structure of the Texas Turnpike Authority (TTA) may be subject to change during the next legislative session through the Sunset process for the Texas Department of Transportation and the TTA, thus potentially negatively impacting the region's ability to move forward with additional mobility projects involving full or partial toll options; and WHEREAS, the City of The Colony has determined it would be in the best interest of mobility needs to support thc development of a tollway authority comprised of several counties in this region; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of The Colony, Texas: Section 1. That the City of The Colony acknowledges the benefit of a locally controlled tollway authority to support continued efforts to solve mobility problems within the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. Section 2. That copies of this resolution be forwarded to the Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition, the Regional Transportation Council, Denton County Commissioners Court, and other appropriate local and State government officials having input into the Texas Sunset Process and subsequent legislation directed at the creation and operation of such a local authority.
