April 16, 2013 Work Session
MINUTES OF WORK SESSION OF COUNCIL
HELD ON
APRIL 16, 2013
The Worlc Session of the City Council of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called to order at 6:02
p.m. on the 16th day of April 2013, at City Hall, 6800 Main Street, The Colony, Texas, with the
following roll call:

Joel Marks Mayor Pro-Tem Absent
And with six council members present a quorum was established and the following items were
addressed:
A. Call to Order
B. Discussion on the All American City Award (Powell) Joe Perez (City Manager's
office) told the council that the city, had applied to the National Civic League for this
recognition. The Colony tivas chosen as one of ttiventy finalists and is the only city from
the state of Texas. Ten cities will receive the award. A benefit of receiving the award is
for marketing and promotion of the city. In order to compete for it the city must appoint
a delegation of people to go to Denver in June to make a presentation relative to this
year's theme, which is community involvement in helping veterans. Joe presented the
travel options and associated expenses. Troy Povvell asked if council is interested in the
city pursuing this and if so, for council members to volunteer to serve on a planning
committee and to discuss a possible budget. David Terre, Richard Boyer and Jeff
Connelly i-vill be on the committee. Mayor McCourry suggested a possible budget of
S6,000-$ 7, 000.
C. Receive report and possible options for further recognition of veterans at the
Five Star Complex (Powell) Troy Powell said that he, Pam Nelson, and TeRon
Lawrence discussed some new ideasfor this project. He also stated that the CDC board
discussed it as well and appointed three members for a committee. Council members
volunteering for the committee are Kirk. Nlikulec, Jeff Connelly, and Mayor McCoau°ay.
D. Discuss FY 2013-14 capital projects and discuss date for a work session
meeting in May (Powell) Tim Miller stated that the property tax revenues should
come out at the end ofMay and would like to set the work session date following that. A

brief discussion regarding the capital list/rankings followed with Councilmember
Connelly asking for the directors to rank the list also, just cis council will be doing. It
was determined to hold the work session on June 10''' at 6:30 p.m.
E. Council to receive supplemental information from staff or answers to questions
regarding the April 16, 2013 regular agenda items as follows:
2.1 Consider approval of minutes of council meetings held April 2, 2013 (City Secretary)
F. Council to provide direction to staff regarding future agenda items.
Councilmeinber- Nlikulec asked for sorrre information regarding the location 911 calls
are received if made fi°orn the westerly part of town. He indicated receiving the
information by email will be fine rather than an agenda item.
G. Adjourn
And with no further business to discuss the meeting was adjourned at 6:42 p.m.
