HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/17/2006 City Council-SS July 17, 2006 I MINUTES OF REGULAR SESSION OF COUNCIL HELD ON July 17, 2006 The Regular Session of the City Council of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called to order at 7:36 p.m. on the 17th day of July 2006, at City Hall, 6800 Main Street, The Colony, Texas, with the following roll call: John Dillard Allen Harris John Marshall Joe McCourry Kirk Mikulec Perry Schrag Joel Marks Mayor Councilmember Councilmember Mayor Pro-tern Councilmember Councilmember Councilmember Present Present Present Present Present Present Present And with seven council members present a quorum was established and the following items were addressed: I ROUTINE ANNOUNCEMENTS, RECOGNITIONS AND PROCLAMATIONS: Call to Order Invocation - Trinity Presbyterian Church Pledge of Allegiance to the United States Flag Salute to the Texas Flag Citizen Input- Ron Marchant, JP for Precinct 6 in Carrollton, introduced himself and told the council that he is the Republican candidate for County Commissioner Precinct 2. Announcement of upcoming civic events and activities 1_ none I 2.0 I CONSENT AGENDA None I 3.0 I REGULAR AGENDA ITEMS I 3.1 Discuss and consider appointments to fill vacancies on advisory boards and commissions (Council) Mayor Dillard asked for nominations to the Cultural Arts Board. Liz Ripperger was nominated by Kirk Mikulec and Shasha Truman-McConnell was nominated by Allen Harris. Liz Ripperger received five votes of council and Shasha Truman-McConnell received two. Liz Ripperger was appointed to the board. I 1 These items are strictly public service announcements. No action will be taken and no direction will be given regarding these items. July] 7,2006 Allen Harris nominated Barry V ondersmith to the Code Enforcement Advisory Board. No other nominations were made. He was appointed by acclamation. Allen Harris nominated Fernando Villarreal to the Planning and Zoning Commission. No other nominations were made. He was appointed by acclamation. I 4.0 I WORK SESSION I 4.1 Open Government Training for elected and appointed city officials. A quorum of the City Council, Economic Development Corporation, Community Development Corporation, Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment may be present. City Attorney Bob Hager advised that the Attorney General's office provided a DVD for viewing by public officials that satisfies the legislative mandate for Open Government Training. Members of the City Council, City Secretary Christie Wilson, Public Information Officer Diane Baxter, City Manager Dale Cheatham, some members of the Economic Development Corporation and Director Tom Terrall, and some members of the Community Development Corporation were present.
