HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/26/2004 City Council o (J () fJ 'J ('\ _ f) t.\ J July 26, 2004 I MINUTES OF SPECIAL SESSION OF COUNCIL HELD ON JUL Y 26, 2004 The Work Session ofthe City Council ofthe City of The Colony, Texas, was called to order at 6:30 p.m. on the 26th day of July 2004, at City Hall, 6800 Main Street, The Colony, Texas, with the following roll call: John Dillard Mayor Present Allen Harris Councilmember Absent (business) Scott Ward Councilmember Present Joe McCourry Mayor Pro-tern Present Lynda Bayliss Councilmember Present Perry Schrag Councilmember Present Joel Marks Councilmember Present And with six council members present a quorum was established and the following item was addressed: 1. Council to receive presentation from GroupBaronet outlining proposed marketing I plan, and discuss and take any action on the various aspects of the plan. Councilmember McCourry briefed those in attendance on the history of this project and turned the meeting over to Veronica Roth with GroupBaronet who presented the marketing plan. She covered all aspects of the plan, which included the approach they would take regarding media coverage, promotional opportunities, and brochures. A packet of information was provided to Council that included the costs ofthe various options available to choose from. Mayor Dillard asked for input from those in attendance, including business leaders and members ofthe CVB board. Dale Cheatham asked for specific direction from Council on the various aspects. In regard to media coverage, Council discussed advertising in the Travel Guide, AAA Camp Guide and the Colony Courier-Leader. After considerable discussion among council members, Councilmember Bayliss made the following motion: Motion to approve the logo enhancement, brochure and photo shoot not to exceed $40,000.00; seconded by Ward; motion passed with all ayes. Dale Cheatham advised Council that he will check into whether or not the Hotel Occupancy Tax can fund an employee (Marketing Director) to oversee the project. Web links on various websites and possible revisions to the City's existing website will be further analyzed I by GroupBaronet in regard to overall costs.
