MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL SESSION OF COUNCIL
HELD ON
APRIL 27, 1999
The SPECIAL SESSION of the City Council of the City of The Colony, Texas was called to order
at 6:00 p.m. on the 27th day of April 1999 at City Hall, with the following council roll call:
Mary Blair Watts, Mayor Present
Bill Longo, Councilmember Present
Bernetta Henville-Shannon, Councilmember Present
David Stanwick, Councilmember Absent (personal)
A1 Garcia, Councilmember Absent (illness)
John Dillard, Councilmember Absent (business) Arrived 6:50p.m.
Dave Kovatch, Councilmember Present
and with four present a quorum of city council was established. The following advisory boards were
also called to order at the same time with members present as shown.
The SPECIAL MEETING of the BOARD of The Colony Economic Development Corporation (4A),
in The City of The Colony, Texas to be held jointly with a Special Meeting of the City Council was
called to order at 6:00 P.M. on the 27TM DAY OF APRIL, 1999 at CITY HALL, with the following
members present:
Members Present: John A. Gordon, President; Member Delaina Hammock ( no quorum)

The SPECIAL MEETING of the BOARD of The Colony Community Development Corporation
(4B), in The City of The Colony, Texas to be held jointly with a Special Meeting of the City Council
was called to order at 6:00 P.M. on the 27TM DAY OF APRIL, 1999 at CITY HALL, with the
following members present:
Members Present: Susan King, President; Members Morris Seay, Don Goebel, Sue Walden, Vicki
Briggs, and Pam Kane. (quorum)

The SPECIAL SESSION of the SPECIAL EVENTS BOARD was called to order at 6:00 p.m. on the
fthe City of The Colony, to be held at 6:00 P.M. on the 27~ day of APRIL 1999, at City Hall, with the
following members present:
Members Present: Teresa Sidwell, Chairman; Members Terri Goebel, Kathy Ferguson, Krystal
Murray, Kay Cone and Nancy Wetzel (quorum)

in Olympics 2012
The SPECIAL SESSION of The Parks & Recreation Board of The Colony, Texas, was
called to order at 6:00 p.m. on April 27th, 1999, at 5151 North Colony Boulevard, The
Colony, TX. with the following members present:
Members Present: Donna Baggett, Chairman; Members Larry Henderson, Laura Bickerstaff, John
Sanders, Susan King and Rich Lewis (quorum)

The following; item was addressed by all bodies:

Mayor Watts advised that she had met with the Denton
County Economic Development Committee last week and
wanted to inform the council and advisory boards of the bid
process by Dallas to host the 2012 Olympics. She cited
various needs such as housing, practice fields and volunteers.
Mayor Watts stated that D Magazine supports the bid and will
be publishing an edition in July 1999 about the process. The
publication will contain a tear-out card so people can mail it
in to volunteer. They would like to have at least 40,000
volunteers.
Mayor Watts introduced Grady Hicks with the Olympics
Committee and Leslie Light with D Magazine. Mr. Hicks
gave an overview of the bid process so far. He advised that
there are many different sport disciplines with different needs
and that it might be possible The Colony would be suitable
for a practice location or a venue for events. Matt Wood with
the Olympic Committee was introduced and fielded questions
as well. Mr. Hicks and Mr. Wood both responded to
questions from board members and council. They invited all

to attend the official kick-offon May 6, 1999 at 6:00 p.m. at
Fair Park.
All the boards present expressed an interest in getting
more information and looking into supporting the
Committee's effort. Teresa Sidwell, Special Events Board
stated the board would adopt a resolution supporting this
project.
Mike Catt, President of the Chamber of Commerce also
expressed interest in pursuing the project.
With no further business to address, city council and all
boards were adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
