HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/05/1998 City Council 0(1689/ MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SESSION OF COUNCIL HELD ON MAY 5, 1998 The REGULAR SESSION of the City Council of the City of The Colony, Texas was called to order at 6:35 p.m. on the 5ta day of May 1998 at City Hall, with the following council roll call: Mary Blair Watts, Mayor Present Bill Longo, Councilmember Present Bernetta Henville-Shannon, Councilmember Present David Stanwick, Councilmember Present Wilma Avey, Councilmember Present John Dillard, Councilmember Present Dave Kovatch, Councilmember Present And with seven present a quorum was established, the following items will be addressed: 2.1 Consideration of an ordinance canvassing the election held in the City of The Colony on May 2, 1998 and declaring the results of said election Mayor Watts read portions of the ordinance as follows: AN ORDINANCE OFf THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS, CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF AN ELECTION HELD IN SAID CITY ON THE 2ND DAY OF MAY, 1998, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING THREE COUNCILMEMBERS I~OR SAID CITY; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, the election returns duly and legally made showed that there were cast at said election 841 valid and legal votes, and that each of the candidates in said election received the following votes: FOR COUNCILMEMBER PLACE 4 Al Garcia ! 110 Rick Manser 96 FOR COUNCILMEMBER PLACE 5 John Dillai-d 192 Brian BroOm 134 006890 FOR COUNCILMEMBER PLACE 6 -- Phillip Marks 88 David Kovatch 122 WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 7.04 of Chapter VII of the Home Rule Charter of the City, in order to be declared elected, a candidate must receive a majority of the legal votes cast for the office or place for which such person is a candidate. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TIlE COLONY, TEXAS: Section 3. That the duly elected members of the City Council of the City of The Colony, Texas, elected May 2, 1998, for Councilmembers Place 4, 5, and 6 and subject to the taking and signing of the oaths as provided by the laws of the State of Texas, are as follows: Councilmember Place 4 A1 Garcia Councilmember Place 5 John Dillard Councilmember Place 6 David Kovatch Motion to approve the ordinance as written - Stanwick; secOnd - Kovatch carried with all members voting Aye. ~ 2.2 Administration of the Oath of Office to newly elected :Councilmembers. The City Secretary administered the Oath of Office to Councilmembers for Place 3, 4, 5 and 6. Place 3 Councilmember, David Stanwick had been declared elected on April 6 by the council because he was unopposed. The members took their places on the dais.
