HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/08/1996 City Council MINUTES OF ~ CITY COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON APRIL 8, 1996 The Special Session of the City Council of the City of The Colony, Texas was called to order at 7:15 p.m. on the 8th day of April, 1996, at City Hall with the following Council roll call: William W. Manning, Mayor Present Bill Longo, Councilmember Present Mary Watts, Councilmember Present Kay Hardin, Councilmember Absent (Reason unknown) David McCreary, Couneilmember Absent (Reason unknown) John Dillard, Couneilmember Present G. David Heiman, Councilmember Absent (Reason unknown) and with four present, a quorum was established and the following items were addressed: 1. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 2. EXECUTIVE SESSION AS AUTHORIZED BY SECTION 551.074 OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT CODE RELATING TO PERSONNEL, TO WIT: A. INTERVIEW FOR PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION APPOINTMENTS Recess 7:20 P.M. Reeonvene 9:40 P.M. After reeonvening in open session, the council addressed the following item: 3. CONSIDERATION OF APPOINTMENTS TO ADVISORY BOARDS Mayor Manning opened the floor for nominations to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Councilman Longo nominated Gloria Rudel. Councilman Watts nominated Janis Stephens. Councilman Dillard nominated Brian Baker and Ruth Hogg. Mayor Manning then asked for each Councilman to vote for two nominees. Councilman Longo voted for Gloria Rudel and Brian Baker. Councilman Watts voted for Janis Stephens and Brian Baker. Councilman Dillard voted for Brian Baker and Gloria Rudel. Mayor Manning voted for Gloria Rudel and Brian Baker. Mayor Manning then declared Gloria Rudel and Brian Baker appointees to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Mayor Manning further addressed individuals still present who had interviewed for appointment. He indicated that the decision was difficult since so many qualified people were interviewed and considered. He added that the vote in no way should be considered a lack of confidence in those interviewed and, should a vacancy occur, they would be contacted in hopes they were still interested in serving on the commission.
