RESOLUTION NO. q~'
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE
COLONY, TEXAS SUPPORTING THE EXISTING BOUNDARY BETWEEN
DENTON COUNTY AND TARRANT COUNTY; AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Tarrant County Commissioners Court is claiming a 150 year-old
survey error and is attempting to move the northern boundary of Tarrant County farther
north, taking away parts of Alliance Airport, Trohpy Club, Roanoke and Flower Mound; and
WHEREAS, approval of this action will double the amount of county taxes for those
homeowners who are forced into Tarrant County; and
WHEREAS, approval of this action will mean a $60 million cut in the current
property tax valuations in Denton County; and
WHEREAS, the subject area, approximately 4000 acres, forms part of the foundation
of the economic growth in Denton County, and the potential value of this land is
astronomical with the intense growth that Denton County is experiencing; and
WHEREAS, the City of The Colony, Texas is within the boundaries of Denton
County, and the City Council of the City of The Colony is concerned with the future growth
and economic potential of Denton County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF THE COLONY, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council joins Denton County in opposing Tarrant
County's effort to take land from Denton County's borders.
SECTION 2. That the City Council is in full support of the existing boundary
between Denton County and Tarrant County.
SECTION 3. That this Resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its
passage, and it is so resolved.
