HELD ON SEPTEMBER 4, 1991 The Work Session of the City Council of the City of The Colony~ Texas was called to order at 7:05 p.m. on the 4th day of September, 1991 at City Hall with the following Council. r~oll call: Bill Manning, Mayor Pre,s'ent Mike Lynch~ Councilman = Absent' Billy Sharp, Councilman Present Dale Therio, Councilman Present Rob Burchard, Councilman Present Lou Gomez~ Councilman Pre,sent Joel Marks, Mayor Pro-tem Present and with six present, a quorum was established and the following items were addressed: 1. RECEIVE PRESENTATION REGARDING COMPUTER NETWORKING IN THE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES OF THE COLONY CITY HALL Councilman Gomez advised that in response to the Mayor's request at a previous Budget Work Session he and Councilman Therio '--' had been investigating the possibility of a network computer system for City Hall. The Councilman then introduced Bill Hummel with Hummel and Associates who gave a very informative presentation regarding network computer systems. Mr. Hummel gave a brief background on networking in general, stating it is the fastest growing area of the computer industry. Mr. Hummel said it differs from a main frame system, in that each personal computer (p.c.) is its own entity. Mr. Hummel's presentation covered various configurations of network systems and he explained how a system such as this could be implemented at City Hall, by adding some new euqipment and converting some existing p.c.'s to network machines. Mr. Hummel fielded questions from Council and staff regarding memory, costs~ current software compatibility, etc. He advised that the memory depends on how big the file server is noting that the Novell system, RAM is used to accept all information then the hard drive sorts it on its own time. Mr. Hummel said some of the existing software may be compatible and some of it may have to be updated or replaced. The estimated cost for a network system for the administrative offices at City Hall would be from $25,000 to $32,000. 8:08 Recess into Executive Session 8:10 2. PERSONNEL - MUNICIPAL BUDGET FY T99]-92 ]]:55 Upon reconvening in open session the Council addressed the following items. 3. ANY APPROPRIATE ACTION TO BE TAKEN AS A RESULT OF THE EXECUTIVE SESSION There was no action to be taken regarding the Executive Session. 4. REVIEW OF THE PROPOSED MUNICIPAL BUDGET FY 199]-92 Motion to postpone review of the proposed budget until a later date - Marks; Second - Therio Motion carried - All Ayes With no further business to address Mayor Manning adjourned the meeting at ]2 Midnight.
