HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/23/1988 City Council 002970 MINUTES OF THE CITY COONCIL MEETING HELD ON MAY 23, 1988 The Special Session of the City Council of the City of The Colony, Texas was called to order at 7:00 p.m~ on the 23rd day of May, 1988 at City Hall with following Council roll call: Don Amick, Mayor Present Rick Harris,Mayor Pro-tem Present Johnny Spears,Councilman Absent Michael Robinson,Councilman Absent Steve Glazener,Councilman Present Dick Weaver,Councilman Present Joel Marks,Councilman Present and with five members present a quorum was established and the following items were addressed: 1. CLOSED DOOR SESSION, AS AUTHORIZED BY ARTICLE 6252-17, V.A.C.S., SECTION 2G, REGARDING PERSONNEL, TO-WIT: PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION INTERVIEWS 2. CONSIDERATION OF ANY APPROPRIATE ACTION TO BE TAKEN AS A RESULT OF THE CLOSED DOOR SESSION, WITH REGARD TO THE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION Councilman Harris moved to re-appoint Cathy Bock and Agnes Foster to another two year term on the Planning and Zoning Commission. Councilman Glazener seconded the motion which carried with a unanimous roll call vote. Mayor Amick directed the City Secretary to set up another interview with Robert Doss for June 6th Council meeting. Councilman Harris requested that an updated listing of all boards be made available to the Council 4. CONSIDERATION OF PROPOSALS FOR AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF THE COLONY AND A VENDOR AT B.B.OWENS PARK Mayor Amick noted that a memorandum from Mr. Bob van Ti] indicated that the only person who had submitted a proposal had informed him on Friday, May 20, that he had sold his equipment and was no longer interested in this venture. APPOINTMENT OF COUNCIL COMMITTEES Mayor Amick made the following appointments to Council committees: Metroplex Mayor's Committee Don Amick Re-Districting Committee Don Amick Rick Harris Johnny Spears Personnel Committee Don Amick Rick Harris Johnny Spears Corp Land Acquisition Committee Rick Harris Steve Glazener Fire Station One Committee Rick Harris Johnny Spears Mike Robinson 00297 . Dick Weaver Water for the Future Dick Weaver There followed a general discussion regarding the various committees and their purposes. Mayor Amick explained about the Re-districting of Council districts to the new members and directed the City Secretary to provide the new map to Councilmen Marks and Weaver and to place an Ordinance to adopt the new districts on the next Council agenda. Councilman Weaver asked if he could be appointed as an alternate to the Chamber. There was some discussion as to whether the City could actually become a voting member of the Chamber and the Mayor asked Mr. Hall to contact the Chamber and see if they want a Councilmember on the Board of Directors. Councilman Marks said he thinks the City should be a member of the Chamber. Mr. Hall said he does not think cities can become a member of the organization so we cannot be a voting member. Mayor Amick then clarified for the new members, an article which had appeared in The Colony Leader regarding the White property. Mayor Amick said The Colony annexed the p~operty before the City of Plano and that the boundaries had been validated by a declaratory judgement at the time the City merged with the M.U.D. The Mayor did say that we have been talking with the City of Plano on a possible settlement on the boundaries. With no further business to address, Councilman Glazener moved to adjourn the meeting and Councilman Marks seconded the motion which carried with all members voting Aye.
