HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/24/1988 City Council MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON FEBRUARY 24, 1988 The Emergency Session of the City Council of the City of The Colony, Texas was called to order at 7:30 p.m. on the 24th day of February, 1988 at City Hall with following Council roll call: Don Amick, Mayor Present Rick Harris,Mayor Pro-tem Present Johnny Spears,Councilman Present Michael Robinson,Councilman Absent Steve Glazener,Councilman Present Harvey Bradley,Councilman Absent Marlene Poole,Councilman Present and with five members present a quorum was established and the following items were addressed: 1. CLOSED DOOR SESSION AS AUTHORIZED BY ARTICLE 6252-17, V.A.C.S., SECTION 2E, REGARDING PENDING LITIGATION, TO-WIT: A. BRIEFING BY CITY ATTORNEY TO DISCUSS LITIGATION TO ENFORCE ORDINANCE NO. 471 Upon reconvening in open session at 8:10 p.m., Mayor Amick called a brief recess. At 8:15 p.m. the Council reconvened and addressed the following item: 2. ANY APPROPRIATE ACTION WITH REGARD TO LITIGATION TO ENFORCE ORDINANCE NO. 471 Mayor Amick summarized the briefing which had been received from the City Attorney in Closed Door, stating that it is believed that two businesses within the City of The Colony are in violation of Ordinance No. 471, (Sexually~ Oriented Business Ordinance). The Mayor stated that'the City is prepared to take legal action to demand this violation be stopped. Councilman Glazener moved to authorize the..City Attorneys to initiate appropriate action, including litigation, to enforce the city's Ordinance No. 47~,~which, among other things, prohibits the operation of s~xually oriented businesses" within 1000 feet of any church; school (including day care centers), or residential zoning districts. Councilman Harris seconded the motion which carried with a unanimous roll call vote. At this time, with no further business to address, '~ouncilman Harris moved to adjourn and Councilman Poole seconded the motion which carried with all members voting Aye.
