FIREWORKS CONTROL LEGISLATION
WHEREAS, the continued presence of any class of fireworks
contributes to injuries and proper~y damage every year when used by
the general public wi~hou~ ~he direction and control of a licensed
pyrotechnician;and
WHEREAS, over the pas~ five years in the United States, an
average of 10,400 hospi%al-trea~ed fireworks injuries hav~ o~curred
year; and
WHEREAS, 34,700 fires were s~arted in our na%ion by fireworks
in 1986 alone; and
WHEREAS, twelve (12) s~a%es have already banned all Class C
fireworks; and
WHEREAS, seven (7) s~a~es allow only sparklers and/or snakes;
and,
WHEREAS, the Honorable Gene Green has filed S. B. 251 which
would grant Commissioners Courts authority ~o regulate fireworks in
unincorpora%ed areas;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF THE COLONY, DENTON COUNTY, TEXAS THAT:
Section 1. Tha% %he Ci%y Council of the City of The Colony
do hereby suppor~ S.B. 251. ' '
Section 2. Tha~ significant public safe~y concerns exis~
to declare this ~o be an emergency and ~ha~ ~his action receive
priority a%ten~ion in ~he 72nd Legislature.
