WHEREAS, the Dallas-Forth area has some of the highest airfares in the country, because of lack of competition, as a result of the Wright Amendment; and WHEREAS, these higher fares hurt the local economy as business and individual travelers pay artificially high prices to fly; and WHEREAS, the high cost to fly into and out of Dallas makes our convention and meeting industries suffer, thus hurting the local hotel, restaurant and convention trade; and WHEREAS, competitive pricing through increased competition will increase the number of passengers at BOTH Dallas airports, thus meaning more jobs for the airline industry, hotel industry, restaurant industry, and convention industry, increasing the employment base of our economy. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS: Section ]. That the City Council of the City of The Colony supports the repeal or revision of the Wright Amendment, with ample consideration given to Air Traffic Safety concerns over the metroplex; and encourages other cities in the metroplex to support repeal or revision of the amendment; and encourages the Business Community and the private sector to urge the members of Congress to repeal or revise the Wright Amendment. Section 2. That the City Manager is authorized to take any and all reasonable and necessary steps to comply, with the intent of this resolution. Section 3.
