HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/15/1978 City Council 000296 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS HELD ON DECEMBER 15, 1978 A Special Emergency Session of the Board of Aldermen of the City of The Colony, Denton County, Texas was called to order with the following members present: William J. Longo Mayor Clint Davis Alderman Sandra Shearer Alderman Gene Pollard Alderman and Alderman Linda A. Adams was not in attendance nor was Alderman Gary Shipman; however, a quorum was established. 1. CONSIDERATION OF ESTABLISHING LONE STAR GAS RATE INCREASE BY ORDINANCE Mr. Hart, City Administrator introduced Mike Williams and Floyd Cunningham of Lone Star Gas. Mr. Williams presented to the City Council the gas company' s justification for a rate increase in The Colony anddid discuss with the Council the action that can be taken by Lone Star Gas if no action is taken by the Council within the ninety day suspension period. Alderman Pollard clarified that it was the intent of Lone Star Gas to post a bond and increase gas rates by forty-eight percent in the City of The Colony. There followed a lengthy and detailed discussion regarding the structure of the earning statements prepared by Lone Star Gas, their rate of return, and the pro- c~dures available to the City and Lone Star Gas. Mr. Hart suggested that Lone Star Gas state in a letter to the City that they will not post a bond prior to December 2Q 1978 and a meeting will be scheduled in January to discuss the rate increase in detail. However, after further discussion, they agreed to "amend" City Ordinance number four which originally established the gas rates in The Colony. Alderman Pollard moved that the original rate structure be changed from 3.00~ to 3.50¢ for the first 1000 MCF with all other charges remaining the same as in Ordinance #4. Alderman Davis seconded this motion. After a brief discussion, the motion was passed by the follow- ing vote: Ayes: All members present voted aye Noes: None 2. CONSIDER AUTHORIZATION TO PURCHASE ONE POLICE VEHICLE AND ONE PUBLIC WORKS Alderman Davis moved to approve the purchase of one Police vehicle and one Public Works vehicle from the Department of Public Safety in the total amount of $1,600. Seconded by Alderman Pollard, the motion was passed by the following vote: Ayes: Alderman Davis and Alderman Pollard Noes: Alderman Shearer There being no further action to be taken by the Council, Alderman Davis moved that the meeting be adjourned. Seconded by Alderman Shearer, the motion was passed by the following vote: Ayes: All members present voted aye Noes: None Mayor Longo adjourned the meeting at 10:30 A.M.
