HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/29/1978 City Council MTNUTES OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS HELD ON JUNE £9, 1978 A Special Session of the Board of Aldermen of the City of The Colony, Denton County, Texas, was called to order by Mayor William J. Longo, with the following members present: William J. Longo Mayor Glint Davis Alderman Linda A. Adams Alderman Sandra Shearer Alderman Gary Shipman Alderman Gene Pollard Alderman and with no members absent, thus consiituting a quorum. Also present was Tom Hart, City Administrator and Janice Carroll, City Secretary. ITEM I Agenda Item I was to be a presentation on Cable Television service to The Colony; however, it had been recently noted that a subsidiary company of Centex Corporation had exclusive Cable TV rights. Mr. Karnes asked that his presentation be tabled, until he had the op- portunity to visit with Fox & Jacobs regarding this situation. ITEM II Mr. Hart presented Agenda Item ii, a Denton County Ambulance Status report. Mr. Hart reported that the County has a bottom line budget of five hundred thousand ($500,000.00) dollars. The County would set aside $2.50 per capita based on the January 1, 1978 Council of Government City Census. However, Mr. Hart stated that he and the Mayor are not optimistic that the County will accept this plan. ITEM III Was consideration of amending the present City budget to the Fire Department and the Ambulance Department. Alderman Adams stated that she would like to see the source of the revenue to be used for these departments. Alderman Shipman moved to approve the amendment of the City budget for the year 1977/78 to incorporate a Fire Department and Ambulance Department. Alderman Adams seconded the motion. After a brief discussion, the motion was passed by the following vote: Ayes: Ail members presented voted Aye Noes: None Mayor Longo briefed the Council on a meeting of The Colony School Com- mittee. The Mayor stated ~.his committee would like the Council to give their official sanction on the use of portable buildings for classrooms. This committee has also received an opinion from Austin that no more than seventy-one seated students are allowed on a school bus. On the matter of portable bui~,~ings, the Council stated that they are receptive to a plan using the concept of portable buildings but with a time limit involved. ITEM V & ITEM VI At this time, Mayor Longo stated that Item V, dealing with personnel and Item VI, dealing with Law Enforcement Commission appli- cants would be held in an Executive Session. Upon reconvening, Mayor Longo stated a discussion was held regarding the natural dissolvement of the Law Enforcement Commission and a decision was made not to reappoint the Commission members on July 17, 1978 for a second year. There being no further action to be taken by the Council, Alderman Adams moved that the meeting be adjourned. Alderman Shipman seconded the motion. The motion was carried by the following vote: Ayes: All members present voted Aye Noes: None The meeting was adjourned by Mayor Pro Tem Pollard.
