HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/01/1978 City Council MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY HELD ON JUNE 1, 1978 A Work Session of the Board of Aldermen of the City of The Colony, Denton County, Texas was called to order by Mayor William J. Longo, with the following members present.. William J. Longo Mayor elint Davis Alderman Gary Shipman Alderman Gene Pollard Alderman and with Alderman Linda Adams and Alderman Sandra Shearer absent; however, a quorum was established. Agenda item one was the consideration of the communication agreement with Flower Mound and Highland Village. After a general discussion, the Council gave a tentative approval to this agreement. Joel Larkin, City Consultant, presented to the Aldermen some preliminary budget figures for the year 1978/1979 as item two on the agenda. Larkin emphasized that these were projections only. A lengthy discussion followed regarding the proposed budget; h~ver, no de~i~ions were made. Agenda item three was postponed until Larry Ellis' arrival. Mayor Longo presented agenda item four. He read a list of what he felt were priority ordinances for the Aldermen to consider. The ordinances are as follows: 1. Solicitation ordinance 2. School Zone ordinance 3. School crosswalk guard ordinance Forty-five mile per hour speed zone on Fence ordinance 6Oversize vehicle ordinance Public Park curfew ordinance 8Vendor ordinance 9Bicycle ordinance 10 Sign ordinance 11 Ordinance calling a Home Rule Commission election. During the discussion, it was agreed that it would be possible to have ordinances number one, two, five, nine and eleven prepared for the June 19 regular council meeting. Returning to agenda item three, Alderman Shipman moved that the City Council allow Alderman Pollard to pursue the matter of insurance coverage prior to June 3, Alderman Davis seconded the motion. The motion was carried by the following vote: Ayes: Ail members present voted aye Noe~: None This action was taken due to the emergency nature of this matter amd the absence of Larry Ellis, Agent of Record, for the city. Agenda item five covered other items that may come before the Council. Mr. Ed Toms representing The Colony Sports Association presented a proposal to paint the ten mile per hour speed limits on ninety-three alleyways at each end at a cost to the City of $£00.00 plus furnishing the paint and stencils. Alderman Pollard moved that the Council accept this offer. Alderman Shipman seconded the motion. The motion was passed by the following vote: Ayes: Ail members present voted aye Noes: None There followed a lengthy discussion relating to several topics; however, no official action was taken by the Council. Alderman Davis moved that the meeting be adjourned. Alderman Shioman seconded the motion.
