MINUTES OF THE SIGN BOARD OF APPEAL
A meeting of the Sign Board of Appeal of the City of The Colony, Texas was called to
order at 7:42 p.m. on the 15th day of June, 2005 at City Hall with the following members
present:
Mike Catt, Chairman
Duane Sanders
Connie Yahwak
Gerald Odum, Vice Chairman
Donna McCright
Staff:
Donna Bateman, Planning and Development Services Director
David Dodd, City Attorney
Lauren Odell, Planner
Sandy Vondersaar, Administrative Assistant

With five (5) members present, a quorum was established and the following items were
addressed:
ITEM #2 - Consider making a recommendation to the City Council amending Chapter 6,
Article II of the Code of Ordinances (2005-M006)
Ms. Odell gave her staff report regarding a recommendation to the City Council to
amend Chapter 6, Article II of the Code of Ordinances.
Member McCright asked if the City is responsible for removing signs.
Ms. Odell informed her that signs are removed by a contractor and the owner is then
charged for the removal plus a service charge.
Member Sanders stated the now defunct Code Enforcement Advisory Committee had
made a recommendation to Council to change the Ordinance regarding removal of old
signs. He asked if the ordinance had been changed at that time.
Ms. Odell's response was no. The request will be submitted to the City Council with the
Board of Adjustment's recommendation.
Chairman Catt pointed out an error on Page 2, Section 4 of the ordinance. The last word
of that section is missing. Please include the word offense.

Member Sanders inquired as to the turnaround time if Council approves this amendment.

Ms. Odell stated the public will have to be notified by newspaper, cable television and on
the back of the water bill. This will be necessary to give them enough time to be
informed of the changes. A timetable is not available at this time.
Member Sanders asked about burned out lights on signs.
Ms. Odell informed him this is a Code Enforcement responsibility.
A motion for recommendation to the City Council to amend Chapter 6, Article II of the
Code of Ordinances (2005-M006), Board Member McCright; second Member Yahwak.
The Secretary called the roll:

The motion carried 5-0.
ITEM #3 - Director's Report

None
Member Sanders asked if the North Central Texas Council of Govemments has
rescheduled the Board of Adjustment Class.
The secretary informed him not at this time. She will informed the Board as soon as the
class is rescheduled.
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:56 p.m.
