HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/20/1988BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT& APPEALS OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, DENTON COUNTY, TEXAS HELD ON JANUARY 20, 1988 A REGULAR SESSION OF THE BOARD of Adjustment & Appeals of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called to order at 19:30 p.m. with the following members present: Gene,Poole Chairman Roosevelt Johnson Member Michael Leddy Member Gary LaCrone Member Ralph Sears Member Bob Hutchison of the City Inspections Department was also present. 1. NOMINATION OF CHAIRMAN: Member Leddy nominated Gene Poole, Member Sears seconded, and carried by all ayes. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of the November 18, 1988 meeting were approved with all ayes. 3. PUBLIC HEARING: Consideration o-: request for variance by Bob Van Til of the City of The Colony regarding two off premise Signs at Paige and 121 and HWY 423 and 121. At this time Chairman Poole opened the meeting with the re- quest for a variance of two off premise Signs at Paige and 121, and HWY 423 and 121. Chairman Poole could not consider it an off premise Sign. Member Roosevelt asked if it would be a Monument Sign, Van Til replied no. Member Leddy felt he said, a little confused on the request so he read some out loud on the ordinance. Bob Van Til talked then about the back ground of a Program and Project to build a Sign to attract business of people passing The Colony on 121. Van Til said business people would fund the Sign and the City would maintain the Sign so it would be attractive and in good order. Member Roosevelt said he had a problem with the vision of the Sign sticking in the ground from two poles. Van Til said they would like to brick around the base but proved to be to expensive, that the design had been trimmed down to each Sign costing $1,000. Sears commented that he felt what the Sign looked like would re- flect how the Colony looked. Member Leddy then asked if Van Til had any further comments, Van Til replied no. Member Leddy motioned the Public Hearing closed, Member Roosevelt seconded, and carried by all ayes. Chairman Poole opened for adjudication, Member Leddy seconded. Members of the Board discussed the merits of the request, after a brief discussion there was some concern about the type of sign to be built. Member Leddy motioned that the request be tabled until the City Council could meet and discuss the need of the Signs. Motioned seconded by Roosevelt, carried by all ayes. Meeting adjourned at 20:45 Gene Poole, Chairman Sherry Tiizlcer, Recording Secretary HELD ON JANUARY 25, 1988 CLOSED DOOR SESSION: The City Council met, and decieded to drop the request for two off premise Signs and the Board of Adjustment & Appeals were notified.
