HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Library Board - 06/27/2024 - RegularOTHE CITY OF THE COLONY LONY LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES m7o;;��c—i,),by the Lake THURSDAY, JUNE 279 2024 7:00 PM The Regular Session of the Library Board of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called to order at 7:00 p.m. on the 27th day of June 2024 at City Hall, 6800 Main Street, The Colony, Texas, with the following roll call: Sandi Gehrke Cynthia Worthen Margaret Heermans, Vice Chair Jonita Harris Joanna Krueger Jarrett Davis Sarah Fried, Chair Judy Ensweiler Megan Charters Karla Storm Place 1 Present Place 2 Present Place 3 Present Place 4 Present Place 5 Present Place 6 Absent Place 7 Present Council Liaison Present Staff Liaison Absent Recording Secretary Present 1.0 ROUTINE ANNOUNCEMENTS, RECOGNITIONS AND PROCLAMATIONS Chairperson Fried announced that she is moving out of The Colony and will be resigning. 2.0 CITIZEN INPUT This portion of the meeting is to allow up to five (5) minutes per speaker with a maximum of thirty (30) minutes for items not posted on the current agenda. The board may not discuss these items, but may respond with factual data or policy information, or place the item on a future agenda. Those wishing to speak shall submit a Request Form to the board secretary. No report. 3.0 CONSENT AGENDA The Consent Agenda contains items which are routine in nature and will be acted upon in one motion. Items may be removed from this agenda for separate discussion by a board member. 3.1 Consider approval of minutes of Library Board meeting held May 23, 2024. The Board reviewed the minutes. Motion to approve the above consent agenda item — Gehrke; second by Krueger; motion passed with all ayes. 4.0 REGULAR AGENDA ITEMS 4.1 Election of presiding officers for new term (July 2024-June 2025) REGULAR SESSION of the LIBRARY BOARD Minutes Meeting Date: 06/27/2024 Page - 2 Chairperson Fried nominated Vice Chair Heermans as Chair and Member Gehrke as Vice Chair. Motion seconded by Krueger; motion passed with all ayes. 4.2 Discuss and receive reports regarding the progress on Library Board Goals and Projects for 2024: A. Continue to maintain legislative awareness of pertinent library issues. No report. B. Continue to assist in representing TCPL at library, school, and community activities. Members Fried and Worthen volunteered at The Colony Summer Kickoff on Saturday, June P. sr Members Gehrke and Heermans attended the Library's Retro Night: 70s program on Saturday, June 22nd C. Initiate contact and work to form partnerships in the community to introduce TCPL's services and resources and to serve as an information source for the community. No report. D. Compile evidence and anecdotal information relating to Library needs in regard to advocating and informing stakeholders about future Library space. No report. 4.3 Discuss, consider, and approve for recommendation the schedule of fees for FY 24-25. The Board reviewed and discussed the recommended changes in the schedule of fees for FY 24- 25. Motion to approve the changes to schedule of fees — Heermans; second by Krueger; motion passed with all ayes. 4.4 Receive a presentation and discuss updates regarding the Library's 2024 Summer Reading Challenge. The dates for Summer Reading Challenge are June P through July 28`h. Registration for Summer Reading Challenge as of June 27`h is 446 children, 90 teens, 221 adults. To date, the Library has had 940 Summer Reading program attendees and 438 attendees for Story Time. 4.5 Receive a presentation and discuss staff updates regarding public relations events, programs, services, and community partnerships. July 2024 programming includes weekly Early Literacy Story Times and Story Time at Chick-fil- A. Summer Reading family activities are every Wednesday afternoon and Family Movie Matinees REGULAR SESSION of the LIBRARY BOARD Minutes Meeting Date: 06/27/2024 Page - 3 every Friday afternoon; Special Saturday events include Stuffed Animal Sleepover, Adventures in Candy Land, The Creature Teacher Animal Show, and Virtual Author Talks featuring children's and young adult authors. Teen summer activities include Teen Movie Night, teen kits, and a Budding Writers Write -In. Socially Savvy Squad, Legal Aid of North Texas, AI Forum, Medicare Education, and Crafting with Creativebug are all summer programs for adults. 4.6 Receive a presentation and discuss updates regarding Friends of The Colony Public Library activities. The Friends of The Colony will meet Thursday, Julyll th at 6:00 p. m. in the Library Conference Room.
