MONDAY, FEBRUARY 26th, 2024
After determining that a quorum was present, the Keep The Colony Beautiful Board of the City
of The Colony, Texas convened into a regular session that was held on Monday, February 26th,
2024 in the City Council Conference located in City Hall, 6800 Main Street, The Colony, Texas,
at which time the following items were addressed:
Board Members Present: Chairman Chris Benson, Secretary Jane Hughey, Chris Luce,
Jenna Nowlin; Lubna Rizvi; Pam De Santiago.
Board Members not Present: Vice Chairman Cody Carpenter
Staff Members Present: Danny Dill, Community Outreach Officer;
Iris Browder, Community Image Director

Meeting called to order at 6:04 p.m.

3.0 MINUTES
3.1 Approve minutes from January 25, 2024 meeting
Motion to approve the minutes made by board member De Santiago, second by board
member Nowlin. Motion carried 6-0.
4.0 DISCUSSION AND CONSIDERATION
4.1 Receive Communication/Advertisement Options for KTCB events
Blaine Crimmins, City of The Colony Communications Director, listed all the options
he has to advertise on the city website:
1) News Flash scrolls at bottom of city website
2) Community Calendar
3) Electronic Newsletter -125 members
4) Facebook — 10,000+ subscribers
5) UTube — 1,300 suscribers (working to grow (@cityofcolonytx))
6) Newspaper Lakeside Journal
7) Instagram — researching at this time
Officer Dill is able to pass almost anything (need of volunteers and educational
information) regarding our board (meeting city regulations) to Crimmins for publishing
on one of the above platforms.
4.2 Discuss alternative Spring Cleanup location
Marlisa Jemison, Parks Manager distributed a Stewart Creek Park, Ridgecrest Park, and
Scout Park including shoreline trails,
1) Suggested that our Spring cleanup could be used in the parks and along the shore
line trails (sticking close to trail when going towards lake).
2) She asks that April 20 be our first event for this activity.
3) Officer Dill also pointed out that The Tribute Trails are also part of the Parks and
Rec responsibilities and could be included in cleanup projects.
4.3 Receive update on the City Hall planter strategy
1) Officer Dill stated that the planters would be ready for planting late March or early
April and distributed a calendar of the monthly board assignments for the weed
cleanup in the planter.
2) Member Rizvi will be the point of contact on the project.
3) The Girl Scout troop(s) will do the actual planning.
4) There is a possibility of doing wildflower seed ball pollinators in the future. This
would help grow endangered wildflowers.
4.4 Rizvi reported on KTCB classes and events planned.
1) The Raptor event will be held in the Annex on May 9 at 6:30 pm. Setup can start
at 4:30 pm. They give a 45 minute presentation with an additional 15 minutes for
questions. Officer Dill will handle the tickets (no charge, just a head count
method). Attendees will be asked to make a donation of supplies needed (tbd).
2) Howl and Prowl date TBD. Will plant seeds and have a nature walk, usually in
Stewart Creek Park.
4.5 Nowlin and De Santiago reported on the status of the "That's so TC recycle art
project."
1) The Ethridge Elementary Art Teacher is presenting the project to her bosses and
other teachers in The Colony (elementary, middle, and high school) and Strike
Middlo 3ilioul (it is physically located in The Colony).
2) The theme is "That's so TC" — what The Colony means to you. No vulgarity
allowed.
3) Promoting will be started at the end of this school year to be completed in
October/November next school year.
4) The Annex is reserved for December 6 for Contest Set up (can start at 4pm) and
December 7 for Judging/Viewing (from 8am to 4:30pm)
5) Judges and prizes TBD. We can solicit sponsor prizes from vendors, just cannot
claim 501 status at the current time.
4.6 Possible KTCB sponsored events for 2024
1) Late March - September — Planter Event
2) April 20 — Spring cleanup
3) May 9 — Raptor event
4) October 24 — Prowl & Howl
4.7 Board to provide direction to staff regarding future agenda items.
1) Slate for 2025
2) Develop a Template/Checklist for events to include:
Month ahead
Month after synopsis
What was best use of time
What was the weather that impacted event
Consistency of communication
Method of media — what using
Store documents in city shared drive
5.0 Adjournment
