February 28, 2002
A REGULAR SESSION of the Library Board of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called
to order by Chair Parks at 7:17 p.m.

1. Citizens input.
None.
2. Consideration and approval of the minutes of the Board meeting held January 24,
2002.
Corrections were made to the spelling of the names of two members and to the
omission of Chair Parks on the list of those present. The minutes were approved as
corrected.
3. Election of officers.
Officers were elected by acclamation with Sandi Gehrke elected as Chair and Jayme
Skelton as Vice-Chair.
4. Library Director's Report:
a. Status report re: operations.
The Library's 20th Anniversary Celebration went very well.
Director Sveinsson and Technical Services Librarian represented the department at
the groundbreaking ceremony for The Colony Five Star Complex. The new library
facility is planned to be located in the south corner of the complex.
Both condensers in the 50 ton air conditioner unit will be replaced and a five-year
warranty has been secured.
Director Sveinsson reviewed the Library's new personnel requests and CIP items
that she presented at the staff CIP and Strategic Planning meeting.
Director Sveinsson is in the process of compiling the Library's annual report for the
State Library and the Library's Loan Star Libraries Plan of Action for submission to
the State Library. --
Director Sveinsson is serving as Proposal Coordinator for the Denton County
Library Advisory Board, preparing the proposal for next fiscal year's County library
funding.
Director Sveinsson reviewed the January statistical report.
The new update for the library automation system has been installed; although the
fixes in it were not guaranteed to correct the problem with the web-catalog locking
up, fewer instances of this problem have occurred.
Technical Services Librarian Sanders is attending a week-long seminar on Windows
2000 professional/server; she secured funding from NTRLS for this training, which
will enable her to increase her ability to communicate with technical support staff.
b. Status report re: Friends of the Library activities.
The FOTCPL Used Book Sale is scheduled for Saturday, March 2®, from 10 a.m. to
4 p. m. The annual meeting, potluck dinner, and murder mystery will be held on
Saturday, April 20th, beginning at 6 p.m. On Saturday June 1st, FOTCPL will host
another McDonalds "All the pancakes you can eat" fundraiser, as well as a book
sale.
c. Long range planning:
Director Sveinsson discussed some ideas for inclusion in the plans for the new
facility.
The next Library Board meeting will be on March 28th.
The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
