January 24, 2002
A REGULAR SESSION of the Library Board of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called
to order by Chair Parks at 7:06 p.m.

1. Citizens input.
None.
2. Consideration and approval of the minutes of the Board meeting held December 13,
2001.
The minutes were approved as presented.
3. Discussion and consideration of proposed revision to Internet Access Policy.
Director Sveinsson requested that this item be tabled for a future agenda. Member
Buliard moved to table this discussion and Member Kruzich second it. The motion
passed unanimously.
4. Library Director's Report:
a. Status report re: grant projects.
No report.
b. Status report re: operations.
Both condensers in the 50-ton air conditioner unit have died. The City Manager and
Public Works Director are researching three different solutions: repair the old air
conditioner, replace the condensers, or abandon that unit altogether and install
three new roof top units.
The Library will kick off the celebration of its 20th anniversary on Saturday, Feb 2nd,
with a brief ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Plaques will be presented to Library's first staff
members: Ann Beckel, who was the first director of the Library and Sandi Gehrke,
who was the technical director. Also to be recognized will be the volunteers who
have served ail 20 years, others involved in starting the Library, past Board
members and Friends of the Library officers. At 10:00 am, Felix the Frog (a walk-
around puppet) will visit the Library, treasure hunts will be held in the Library
throughout the day, and at 1:00 p.m., the Chick-Fil-A Cow mascot will visit and
parents may take photos of their children with the Cow. "Bundles of Love" (five or
six paperback romance books tied with a pretty ribbon) will be sold for $1.00
throughout the month. The Library will also celebrate Black History Month with a
dramatic presentation of "Sojourner Truth" by actress/storyteller Catherine
Whiteman on Feb. 21st, as well as with special bookmarks and displays.
Three new replacement computers have been installed and the remaining three will
be installed in the near future. At that point, all of the old computers will have been
replaced. The old LAN server was showing signs of disk problems, so the files and
programs have been moved to the new Exchange server that was installed last
fiscal year.
On Jan. 28th, Technical Services Librarian Sanders will install the next automation
software update.
Director Sveinsson and NTRLS System Representative Parks attended the NTRLS
System Assembly on Jan 24th. The NTRLS plans of services for 2003, 2004, and
2005 were presented. Director Sveinsson described the changes in services for
those years.
The Texas Library Association Annual Conference will be held in Dallas this year.
On the Thursday of Conference week, April 25th, the staff will have an In-Service
Day to allow all staff to attend the Conference. Exhibit passes will be for sale at the
Conference, should any Board members wish to visit the exhibits.
c. Status report re: Friends of the Library activities. __
The next meeting of the FOTCPL officers is scheduled for January 30th at 7 p.m.
The next FOTCPL book sale is scheduled for Saturday, March 2nd from 10 a.m. to
4 p m. On Saturday, June 1st' FOTCPL will host another McDonalds "All the
pancakes you can eat" fundraiser, as well as a book sale

The next Library Board meeting will be on February 28th.
