FEBRUARY 24, 2000
A REGULAR SESSION of the Library Board of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called
to order by Chair Bullard at 7:07 p.m.

1. Citizens input.
Member Althaus will be presented with the NTRLS Government Official Award for 1999
at the City Council meeting on Feb 7th at 7:00 p.m.
2. Consideration and approval of the minutes of the Board meeting held December 9,
1999.
The minutes were approved.
3. Review memo regarding recommendation to the Community Development Corporation
(4B) that a survey of citizen attitudes be conducted every two to three years for
comparison to the 1996 and 1999 studies.
The members reviewed the draft memo and agreed that it should be sent to the Chair
of the Community Development Corporation.
4. Discussion and consideration of establishing a policy regarding the use of the
Conference room.
Director Sveinsson outlined the basic premises for a policy regarding the use of the
Conference Room; consideration was tabled to the March meeting, at which time
Director Sveinsson will present a draft version for the Board's consideration.
5. Library Director's Report:
a. Status report re: new library facility.
b. The first rain storm since the relocation proved that there were some leaks, in the
roof, above the reading area window, and around the drive-up drops. The
construction crew has been informed and will be seeking solutions. The new
internet computers have not been set up as the equipment is not all here; the plan is
to have the network up and running within the next month. The first day that the
Library opened in the new facility, over 1,500 items circulated and many new library--
cards were issued. The Sigma-Stack campaign is going well with 19 pledges.
Librarians from The Colony High School and Griffin Middle School will tour the new
facility on Feb. 28th. Requests for tours have been frequent; tour groups have
included Girl Scout troops, elementary school classes, and day care classes.
Public response to the new facility has been very favorable. Spring break is March
13th -17~h. There will be a puppet workshop on Wednesday the 15th from 2:00 -
3:30 p.m. On Friday, March 17th, several movies will be shown at 1:00 p.m.
c. Update Re: Friends of the Library fundraising efforts.
The Friends of the Library are planning to use funds raised for the new facility to
purchase blinds for the windows. The next meeting of the Friends officers will be
March 7~h. The Friends annual meeting & potluck dinner and murder mystery will be
held on April 29th.
The Community Development Corporation will hold a public hearing on March 9~h, at
7 p.m, regarding future projects. As the Library will be included in the Community
Complex under consideration, Library Board members may wish to attend.
Library Board meetings will be held on March 23rd and on April 27th.
The meeting adjourned at 8:23 p.m.
