a. Status report re: operations:
Practicum student Havananda has been gaining experience working in each service
area; one major task he has undertaken is a collection development project to
identify outdated items to be withdrawn from the computer materials collection and
recommending items to be acquired for that collection.
Support Services Clerks LeMaire and Werchan have continued to do an excellent
job of keeping basic tasks in Technical Services running smoothly during their
supervisor's health-related absences.
Toddler Times for 2 year olds continue to be very popular.
The Library's series of continuing education workshops for day care teachers
continues to be very popular; forty-six day care teachers attended the spring
workshop presented by the Texas Agricultural County Agent for Family and
Consumer Sciences on the topic of "Discipline of Preschool Children".
Staff visited the local day care centers to present the gift of a large flannel board to
each and to introduce the day care kits; the day care teachers have been very
pleased with this new service, which will enhance the reading readiness activities
for the children in their care.
The Library's Mother/Daughter tea has been rescheduled for May '17th due to a
conflict with early voting. An etiquette consultant will be here to present a speech.
The Evening Cultural Events have brought some very interesting presentations to
the Library's patrons. January's Evening Cultural event featured local artist Nancy
Boren who spoke about her design for the Texas State Quarter competition and
displayed some of her other works February's event featured Lorraine Heath, an
award-winning author from the Dallas Association of Romance Authors. Ms. Heath
presented "From Seed to Blossom", an account of the process of writing a novel,
from idea to finished work. The March event will feature ensemble music from
The Colony High School American Brass Quintet.
Due to the ice storm, the Library was closed on Tuesday, February 25th and the
AARP tax help session for that day was canceled. The AARP volunteer preparers
have graciously scheduled an extra session to be held on Saturday, March 1st from
noon till 4:00 p.m.
b. Update re: Friends of the Library activities:
The Friends of The Colony Public Library Annual Potluck Dinner and Murder
Mystery will be held on Saturday, April 26th.
Due to additional work and family responsibilities, Linda Camerlin has resigned as
secretary of the FOTCPL.
Library Secretary Chantrill has applied for a grant from Wal-Mart to match funds
raised from the book sale of March 1st. The grant funds will be used to purchase
book baskets for patron use in the Library.
The next book sale will be held on June 7th, as will the annual "All the Pancakes
You Can Eat" at McDonalds fund-raiser.
