HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/28/2016 LIBApril 28, 2016 CITY OF THE COLONY LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES APRIL 28, 2016 The Regular Session of the Library Board of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called to order at 7:02 p.m. on the 28`x' day of April 2016, at The Colony Public Library, 6800 Main Street, The Colony, Texas, with the following roll call: Sandi Gehrke Place 1 Present Marlene Martin, Vice -Chair Place 2 Present Frederick Rushing Place 3 Present Judith Hebb Place 4 Present Joanna Krueger Place 5 Absent Jade Kelly Place 6 Absent Yasmin Agudelo, Chair Place 7 Present Brian Wade Council Liaison Absent Joan L. Sveinsson Staff Liaison Present Jan Williams Recording Secretary Present With five board members present a quorum was established and the following items were addressed: 1.0 ROUTINE ANNOUNCEMENTS, RECOGNITIONS AND —� PROCLAMATIONS: J Call to order Citizen Input 2.0 CONSENT AGENDA Consider approval of minutes of Library Board meeting held March 31, 2016 Motion to approve the above consent agenda item - Hebb; second by Gehrke; motion passed with all ayes 3.0 REGULAR AGENDA ITEMS 3.1 Tour of various areas of the Library to gain greater understanding of current services, improvements, planned changes, and needs. The Board members toured the Non-fiction, adult fiction, and DVD/B1uRay collections. 3.2 Introduction of new eServices Librarian. eServices Librarian Noelle Roseberry was introduced; she joined the staff on April 19th. 3.3 Discuss and consider changing the date of the October Library Board meeting. Motion to move the October 27 meeting to November 3- Gehhke; second by Martin; motion passed with all ayes. 1 April 28, 2016 3.4 Discussion and reports regarding progress of Library Board goals and projects for - - - 2016: A. Continue to maintain legislative awareness of pertinent library issues No report. B. Continue to assist in representing TCPL at library, school, and community activities No report. C. Initiate contact and work with the business community to introduce TCPL's services and resources Member Hebb attended the Marriott Courtyard grand opening. Member Agudelo is working with the Chamber of Commerce for the mixer in June and July. 3.5 Receive and discuss staff update regarding Friends of the Library activities: FOTCPL PRESENTS! Fancy Nancy Tea Party Ticket sales began March 29 and were sold out by March 31. The event was held on Saturday, April 16 and was a great success. All attendees enjoyed refreshments and making crafts. FOTCPL Annual Meeting This event will be held Saturday, April 30, 6 p.m. at Palio's Pizza Cafe. Guest speaker will be author Bettina Restrepo whose 2011 publication Illegal is on the Texas Library Association Young Adult Round Table 2016 Spirit of Texas High School Reading hist. Jazzed About The Library Benefit 2016 Mark your calendars! This event will be held August 13 at the Cascades event center and the theme is 40's Jazz. The City is providing requested funding. The FOTCPL officers are seeking corporate and business sponsors and at the same time are working on exciting plans for 2017. Little Free Libraries Director Sveinsson reported that the LFI,s have been embraced by their neighborhoods; numerous postings have appeared on social media sites. One of the postings has reached 988 people; another posting reached 575 people. 3.6 Receive and discuss staff update regarding public relations events and programs: AARP Tax Help The AARP Foundation Tax Help volunteers helped a total of 215 people in the community prepare and send in their Federal tax returns. Early Dismissal Movie There were only 2 attendees; publicity did not go out soon enough to properly promote the program. Candy Bouquet Class Although more had registered, only three attendees showed up, but they all had a great time of creating a Candy Bouquet to take home. 2 April 28, 2016 Gaming Tournament The Teen Anime Club will host a Smash Tournament on Saturday, May 6 at 6:30 p.m. Summer Reading Club Registration Registration will begin on Tuesday, May 17. Bridges Cemetery Open House The Local History Committee will host an open house at Bridges Cemetery on Monday, May 30, 10 a.m. - noon. 3.7 Receive and discuss staff report re: staffing changes Director Sveinsson presented an update of the staffing changes in the department that have recently occurred. The new eServices Librarian is Noelle Roseberry. A conditional offer has been accepted by candidate for Summer Clerk position (40 hrs wk/8 wks). Youth Services Librarian, Kansas Terry, has resigned and has accepted a position at Grapevine Public Library. Her last day at TCPL is April 29. This vacancy has been posted. 3.8 Review list of May library programs The board reviewed the list.
