LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES
January 28, 2016
The RegWar Session of the Library Board of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called in
order at 7:01 p.m. on the 3r° day of December, 2015, at The Colony Public Library, 6800
Man Street, The Colony, Texas, with the following roll call:

And with six board members present a quorum was established and the following items
were addressed:

Call to order
Ciizeu Input — Luke Grosso from Boy Scout Troop 226 attended the meeting as
part ofNe "ui mu to earn his Com eatiom Mefit Badge. His frdoor Lyle
Orissa, was also present.
2.0 CONSENT AGENDA

3.1 Review proposed Library Bmrd mating arhedulefor 2016 and sec mewing dna
The Board normally mats on the fourth Thursday of each month. Director Sveinsson
presented the proposed schedule which Includes adjustments due to Board banquet and

3.2 Discussion and final reports regarding progress of Library Board goals and
prvjeds for 2015:
A. Continue to maintain legislative awareness of pertinent library issues

B. Continue to assist in representing TCPL at school and community activities
Members Hebb and Gehrke were present at FOTCPL PRESENTS! Photos with
Santa
C. Irsitiate contact and work with the buslnms community to introduce TCPL1
services and resources
No report. Member Marin is working on a PowerPoint presenmtion and asked the
other Board members for input on what should be highlighted in this presentation.
33 Discussion and considenrion of Library Roar! goals and projects for 2016
The Board discussed setting the following gaols:
• Continue to maintain legislative awareness of pertinent library issues
• Continue to assist with TCPL public miatiom at school, community, and TCPL
activities
• Initiate contact and work with the business community to introduce TCPLY services
am resources
• Review Collation Development Policy

3.4 Discussion and consideration of proposed 2016-2020 Long Range Plan
The Board discussed the 20162020 Long Range Plan.

3.5 Recelve and discuss staff update regarding Friends of the Library activitieu
"TCPL PRPSEA7SI Photos with Santa was a smashing success with a revmrd
cranio of 330 people and 258 photos taken.
Volunteer recognition: A reception will be held on February 16 m City Hall with
remgnttion prior to the City Council meeting. The volunteers will be mentioned by
City Council and receive thew awards during the Council meeting.

Memorial project: Director Sveittsmn provided the following information about the
Diana Kriench Memorial Little Free Libmdes of The Colony:
Mission: To create literacy -friendly neighborhoods throughout The Colony through
placement of Link Free Libraries in city parks.

member Diana Kruzich.
Partnersinclude: 1 CPL, Frieuds ofThe Colony Public Library, and The Colony
Parks & Recreation Department (PARD).
Stewardshio: Fsch Lisle Free Library will have a volunteer steward whose role will
be to rsock it as needed with materials provided by FOTCPL.
A Lisle Fra Library is a "take a book, return a book" free book exchange; it will be
in the form of an anractivc pale -mounted "book house". Anyone may take a book or
bring a book to share.
To begin this project, three Lisle Free Libraries have been pumhas d and TCPL will
work with PARD staff regarding placement in parks.
3.6 Receive and discuss staff retort of TCPL's 2015 accomplishments
The Board re% iewN the list of accomplialm ents submitted by Director Sveinsmn to the
City's Communications Director.
3.7 Receive and discuss staff report re: staffing changes
Director Sveinoson presented an overview of the staffing changes in the department that
have occurred as a result of retirements and of one part-time scoff member accepting a
full-time position in another field.
3.8 Receive and discuss staff update regarding public relations events and programs:
Family Holiday Pajama Story Time: Miss Kansas and Miss Julie started in this event
on December 16 which drew in forty-seven attendees who enjoyed the lamentations
and the cmfl pmjecL
Early Districts] Movie: The De ember 10 showing of Inside Out drew eighteen
attendees.
STEManlam: This weekly come -and -go activity, ben been a gree success drawing an
average of twentyparticipants.
Computer Curses: Registration began for these classes on January 22. The February
classes include lotemet and Computer Security, Intro to Word 2010, Intro to Faeal
2010, IntermediabrWmd 2010, and Intermediate Exce12010.
Candy Bouquet Clam: Registration is full for this adult class on Friday, January 29.
Participants will learn to make a Valentine's Day Candy Bouquet.
LISD's Big Event: This event will take place Saturday, Match 19. Students, patterns,
and teachers will he at TCPL to help prepare publicity packets for TCPL Summer
January 28, 2016
Reading Club and summer youth ad reel) programs; the packers wdE be distributed in
the schools during the month of May,
