CITY OF THE COLONY
LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES
December 3, 2015
The Regular Session of the Library Board of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called to
order at 7:04 p.m. on the 3`d day of December, 2015, at The Colony Public Library, 6800
Main Street, The Colony, Texas, with the following roll call:

And with six board members present a quorum was established and the following items
were addressed:
1.0 1ROUTINE ANNOUNCEMENTS, RECOGNITIONS AND
PROCLAMATIONS:

2.0 1 CONSENT AGENDA
Consider approval of minutes of Library Board meeting held October 22, 2015
Motion to approve the above consent agenda item- Gehrke; second by Krueger;
motion passed with all ayes except for Hebb who abstained.
3.0 1 REGULAR AGENDA ITEMS
3.1 Discussion and reports regarding progress on the following Library Board goals
and projects for 2015:
A. Continue to maintain legislative awareness of pertinent library issues
No report.
B. Continue to assist in representing TCPL at school and community activities
Member Gehrke participated in the NFM Story Telling event on October 23.
Members Gehrke and Hebb assisted with the Snapshot Day event on October 30.
Members Gehrke, Rushing and Martin assisted Director Sveinsson with the Salute to
American Heroes booth on November 7.

C. Initiate contact and work with the business community to introduce TCPL's
services and resources
Member Martin reported that she is putting together a PowerPoint presentation
regarding how to approach this goal in 2016.
3.2 Discussion of development of 2016-2020 Long Range Plan
The Board reviewed the plan for structure, grammar and punctuation. The plan will be
on the January agenda for final review and consideration.
3.3 Receive and discuss staff update regarding Friends of the Library activities:
FOTCPL PRESENTS! Photos with Santa: This event will be held from noon to 2
p.m., Saturday, December 5. The fee per photo will be $2; photos will be available for
same day pickup and a free photo mailing card will be included. Holiday music will be
provided by the Fiddle Rascals. Proceeds will benefit the Library's Youth programs.
Jazzed About The Library 2016. FOTCPL has set the date: August 13,2016,6-9 p.m.
Receive and discuss staff update regarding public relations events and programs:
Booktoberfest: This family reading festival held on Sunday, October 25 from 2-4 p.m.
drew 120 participants. The event was a partnership involving TCPL, The Colony
Resource Center, and FOTCPL; it featured readings and signings by local authors of
children's and youth books, puppet shows, and door prizes. Courtesy of FOTCPL, each
participant received a free book or, if a participant did not find a book to meet his or her
interest in the selection provided, a voucher for a book from FOTCPL's ongoing book
sale.
Nebraska Furniture Mart event and book drive: Nebraska Furniture Mart sponsored
a book drive October 7-27 in partnership with TCPL. On October 23, TCPL provided a
reading event from 4-7 p.m. in the store.
Salute to American Heroes booth 11/7: TCPL staff, Library Board members, and
FOTCPL members made 342 contacts, issued three library cards to new residents,
shared information about TCPL resources and services with booth visitors, and raised
funds for library support through the sale of book bags. Donations to fund purchase of a
K'Nex kit were collected via one of the spiral wishing wells.
Gaming Tournament: This event brought in 13 attendees and raised just over $41.
Participation in Anime Club is down as many of the members graduated in June and
others turned 16 and got jobs.
Computer Classes: On Saturday, November 14, there were two participants for the
Intermediate Word 2010 class and two participants for the Intermediate Excel 2010
class. The 3-D Printing class scheduled for November 22 was canceled as the printer
had been sent to the manufacturer for repair.

Family Holiday Pajama Story Time: Miss Julie and Miss Kansas will be conducting
this event on Wednesday, December 16 at 7 p.m. in the multipurpose room. Families
are encouraged to attend wearing their favorite pajamas and to bring their favorite teddy
bear to hear holiday stories and make holiday crafts.
Early Dismissal Movie: The movie Inside Out will be shown for all ages on Friday,
December 18 at 2 p.m.
3.4 The Board reviewed the list of December library programs

And with no further business to discuss the meeting was adjourned at 8:38 p.m.
