CITY OF THE COLONY
LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES
JUNE 25,2015
The Regular Session of the Library Board of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called to
order at 7:03 p.m. on the 25th day of June, 2015, at The Colony Public Library, 6800 Main
Street, The Colony, Texas, with the following roll call:

And with five board members present a quorum was established and the following items
were addressed:
1.0 ROUTINE ANNOUNCEMENTS,RECOGNITIONS AND
PROCLAMATIONS:
Call to order
Introduction of new member
Yasmin Agudelo was introduced as the Place 7 member of the Board.
Citizen Input-None.
2.0 CONSENT AGENDA
Consider approval of minutes of Library Board meeting held May 28,2015
Motion to approve the above consent agenda item with corrections-Hebb; second
by Martin;passed with all ayes
3.0 REGULAR AGENDA ITEMS
3.1 Discussion and reports regarding progress on the following Library Board goals
and projects for 2015:
A. Continue to maintain legislative awareness of pertinent library issues
No report.
B. Continue to assist in representing TCPL at school and community activities
No report.

C. Initiate contact and work with the business community to introduce TCPL's
services and resources
TCPL Staff reported that Member Gehrke picked up materials to be placed in new
resident packets to be distributed by the Chamber of Commerce.
3.2 Discussion of development of 2015-2020 Long Range Plan
The Board discussed the mission statement, vision statement, and strategic priorities
sections of the 2015-2020 Long Range Plan.
3.3 Review of Conference Room Policy
The Board reviewed the Conference Room Policy, removing the reference to The
Colony Library Foundation (no longer in existence) and making minor grammatical
revisions. Consideration of the retitled policy will be placed on the July agenda.
3.4 Review of Policy on Patron Confidentiality
The Board reviewed the Policy on Patron Confidentiality. The proposal was made to
change the title of the policy to Customer Record Confidentiality Policy; no other
revisions were proposed. Consideration of the revised policy will be placed on the July
agenda.
3.5 Review of Proctoring Policy __
The review of the Proctoring Policy resulted in no revisions; the review date will be
noted on the policy.
3.6 Review of Study Room Policy
The review of the Study Room Policy resulted in no revisions; the review date will be
noted on the policy.
3.7 Receive and discuss staff update regarding Friends of the Library activities:
June Bag of Books Sale: as of June 21, seventeen"Bag of Books"had been sold.
FOTCPL PRESENTS! Family Fun Nights: Fifty-one children and parents enjoyed
magician, puppeteer, and ventriloquist Brett Roberts' presentation "Heroes Around the
World"; he performed magic tricks, talked about real life heroes, and promoted use of
the library. The July 16 Family Fun Night will feature musical fun with the Pipdillys.
September 26 fundraising event: FOTCPL will hold a major fundraising event,Jazzed
About The Library " on the evening of Saturday, September 26, at 5:30 p.m. at the
Cascades Event Center.
3.8 Receive update regarding vacant staff position
Director Sveinsson provided a status update regarding the vacant Youth Services

Library Assistant position.
3.9 Receive and discuss staff update regarding public relations events and programs:

National Audiobook Month promotion: To date, over thirty people had entered
TCPL's National Audiobook Month drawing for a free MP3 player.
Summer Reading Programs:
On June 10, thirty-seven children attended the program presented by Officer Kelli
Hunt of The Colony Police Department. After Officer Hunt's presentation, the children
visited a patrol car.
Eighty-one children and parents learned about the dairy process and observed a
milking demonstration at the June 11 presentation of the Southwest Dairy Association
Mobile Dairy.
Sixty-six children attended the June 17 presentation by magician Gerald
Edmundson.
Forty-four children attended the June 24 presentation by percussionist Mark
Shelton.

Fired Up About Reading drew fifteen children on June 11; twenty-one on June 18; and
twenty-eight on June 25.
Robotics Club (for Grades 3-5) had ten participants on June 12 and eight on June 19.
Registration is full for the July sessions and there is a wait list. Sessions have been
added in August due to popular demand.
Snap Circuits Pro Tutorial drew seven participants on June 13.
Sun Safety Presentation has been rescheduled to July 8 due to the speaker's change in
availability.
Duct Tape Creations will be offered Friday, June 26 at 2p.m.; children under the age of
9 must be accompanied by a supervising adult.
Family LEGOmania will be held on Saturday, June 27.
3.10 Review list of July library programs
The Board reviewed the list.
ADJOURNMENT
And with no further business to discuss the meeting was adjourned at 8:51 p.m.
