CITY OF THE COLONY
LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES
May 28, 2015
The Regular Session of the Library Board of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called to
order at 7:20 p.m. on the 28th day of May, 2015, at The Colony Public Library, 6800 Main
Street, The Colony, Texas, with the following roll call:

Frederick Rushing, Chair Place 3 Present
Judith Hebb Place 4 Present
Joanna Krueger, Vice-Chair Place 5 Present
Jade Kelly Place 6 Present
Place 7 Vacant

Joan L. Sveinsson Staff Liaison Present
Jan Williams Recording Secretary Present
And with four board members present a quorum was established and the following items
were addressed:
1.0 ROUTINE ANNOUNCEMENTS,RECOGNITIONS AND
PROCLAMATIONS:

2.0 CONSENT AGENDA
Consider approval of minutes of Library Board meeting held April 23,2015
Motion to approve the above consent agenda item—Hebb; second by Krueger;
motion passed with all ayes
3.0 REGULAR AGENDA ITEMS
3.1 Discussion and reports regarding progress on the following Library Board goals
and projects for 2015:
A. Continue to maintain legislative awareness of pertinent library issues

B. Continue to assist in representing TCPL at school and community activities

C. Initiate contact and work with the business community to introduce TCPL's
services and resources

3.2 Annual review, discussion, and consideration of recommendations regarding the
Library's schedule of fees
The Board reviewed the Library's schedule of fees, discussed staff's proposed revisions,
and recommended them for submission as part of the annual budget process.
Motion made by member Hebb; seconded by member Kelly; motion passed with all
ayes.
3.3 Review, discuss, and consider revisions to the InterLibrary Loan Policy
The Board reviewed the InterLibrary Loan Policy, discussed staff's proposed revisions,
and adopted the revisions.
Motion made by member Hebb; seconded by member Kelly; motion passed with all
ayes.
3.4 Review, discuss, and consider revisions to the InterLibrary Lending Policy
The Board reviewed the InterLibrary Lending Policy, discussed staff's proposed
revisions, and adopted the revisions.
Motion made by member Hebb; seconded by member Kelly; motion passed with all
ayes.
3.5 Discussion of development of 2015-2020 Long Range Plan
This item was tabled until the June 25, 2015 Board meeting.
3.6 Receive and discuss staff update regarding Friends of the Library activities:
FOTCPL PRESENTS! Annual Fun Night: FOTCPL PRESENTS! Annual Fun Night
was a success. Mike Cicutto of Jackson Shaw presented a $5,500 check for the AWE
Early Literacy Computers fundraising campaign, author Jackie Smith greeted attendees
and autographed her books, and attendees participated in a silent auction, competed in
Book Jeopardy, and vied for door prizes.
June Bag of Books Sale: Bag of Books sale is back as the June fundraiser.
FOTCPL PRESENTS! Family Fun Nights: FOTCPL is again sponsoring two
evening family programs this summer; the first will feature magician, puppeteer, and
ventriloquist Brett Roberts in "Heroes Around the World" on Thursday, June 18, at 7
p.m.
3.7 Receive and discuss staff update regarding public relations events and programs:
Basic Nutrition for Adults: The series of three nutrition classes for adults, "Back to the
Basics," offered in partnership with the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service,brought
in a growing number of participants as the series progressed(4 attended the first class, 6
attended the second class, and 7 attended the final class).
Gaming Tournament: The Teen Anime Club's Mario Kart Tournament brought in 23
participants.

Summer Reading Club Registration: Summer Reading Club registration started on
May 12.
Bridges Cemetery Open House: The Local History Committee's Memorial Day open
house at Bridges Cemetery had to be canceled due to the impact of the severe weather
on the cemetery grounds.
National Audiobook Month promotion: TCPL will celebrate National Audiobook
Month in June by offering customers who check out audiobooks the opportunity to enter
a drawing for a free MP3 player.
Summer Reading Programs: Summer Reading Programs begin June 10; the Board
was provided information regarding the extensive program line-up for TCPL's summer
youth and family programs.
3.8 Review list of June library programs
The board reviewed the list.
ADJOURNMENT
And with no further business to discuss the meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
