CITY OF THE COLONY
LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES
April 23,2015
The Regular Session of the Library Board of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called to
order at 7:06 p.m. on the 23rd day of April, 2015, at The Colony Public Library, 6800 Main
Street, The Colony, Texas, with the following roll call:

And with four board members present a quorum was established and the following items
were addressed:
1.0 ROUTINE ANNOUNCEMENTS, RECOGNITIONS AND
PROCLAMATIONS:
Call to order
Citizen Input – Government student Amada Haynes was introduced to the Board
members; she was present to observe the meeting as part of a class assignment.
2.0 CONSENT AGENDA
Consider approval of minutes of Library Board meeting held March 26, 2015
Motion to approve the above consent agenda item—Martin; second by Hebb; motion
passed with all ayes
3.0 REGULAR AGENDA ITEMS
3.1 Discussion and reports regarding progress on the following Library Board goals
and projects for 2015:
A. Continue to maintain legislative awareness of pertinent library issues

B. Continue to assist in representing TCPL at school and community activities
No report
C. Initiate contact and work with the business community to introduce TCPL's
services and resources
Member Krueger reported that she had contacted the Chamber of Commerce and
they were interested in assisting TCPL by providing a list of upcoming events.

Member Martin reported that she had contacted the management at the Storage
Facility on Paige. She will also follow up regarding providing information packets
to new tenants in several apartment complexes.
3.2 Review, discuss, and consider revisions to the InterLibrary Loan Policy
This item was tabled until the next Board meeting on May 28, 2015.
3.3 Review, discuss, and consider revisions to the InterLibrary Lending Policy
This item was tabled until the next Board meeting on May 28, 2015.
3.4 Discussion of development of 2015-2020 Long Range Plan
This item was tabled until the next Board meeting on May 28, 2015
3.5 Receive and discuss staff update regarding Friends of the Library activities:
FOTCPL PRESENTS.' Fancy Nancy Tea Party: This sold-out event was held on
Saturday, April 18th and was a great success. Member Gehrke shared her observations
of the event and Director Sveinsson presented a selection of photos of the very "fancy"
decorations and attendees.
North Texas Book Festival: FOTCPL VP-Membership Mac Caldwell represented
FOTCPL at this event which was held in Denton on Saturday, April 11; several
FOTCPL members had served as judges for this year's Festival.
Fundraising activities: FOTCPL has reached its goal in the Jackson-Shaw fundraising
challenge. The initial goal was $6,500; by talking advantage of a trade-in special, as
well as the CTLS member discount of free shipping,the goal was reduced to $5,125. As
of the Board meeting, $5,850 had been raised. Funds raised in excess of the amount
needed will be used for future support of the AWE Early Literacy Computers service.
One or more Jackson-Shaw representatives will be at the FOTCPL PRESENTS! Annual
Fun Night on April 25 to present final check.
FOTCPL PRESENTS.' Annual Fun Night: This event will be held Saturday, April 25
at 6:30 p.m. and will include the Jackson-Shaw check presentation, a short business
meeting, door prizes, refreshments and fun. Every attendee will receive one free ticket
for a prize drawing. Officer elections will also be held. Board members were invited to
attend this event.
3.6 Receive and discuss staff report regarding Texas Library Association annual
conference
Director Sveinsson presented a brief overview of the highlights of the Texas Library
Association Annual Conference and some of the sessions she attended.
3.7 Receive and discuss staff update regarding public relations events and programs:
AARP Tax Help: The AARP Foundation Tax Help volunteers helped a total of 208
people in the community prepare and send in their Federal tax returns.
Duct Tape Creations: The nine participants at this class had a great time.
Social Security Seminar: This seminar brought in 25 attendees, which is a great turnout
for an adult class.

Computer Training Classes: The Internet and Computer Safety class had two
participants and the Introduction to Microsoft Excel 2010 had six participants;
Intermediate Excel will be offered April 24.
National Library Week: TCPL celebrated National Library Week with drawings for
FOTCPL book sale gift certificates.
Early Dismissal Movie: Twelve people enjoyed the Early Dismissal Movie showing of
Big Hero 6.
Basic Nutrition for Adults: A series of three nutrition classes for adults, "Back to the
Basics," will be offered in partnership with Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service on
Thursdays, May 7, 14, and 21 at 10:30 a.m.
Gaming Tournament: The Teen Anime Club will host a Mario Kart Tournament on
Saturday, May 9, at 6:30 p.m.
Summer Reading Club Registration: Registration will begin on May 12.
Bridges Cemetery Open House- The Local History Committee will host an open house
at Bridges Cemetery on Monday, May 25, 10 a.m. -noon.
3.8 Review list of May library programs
The board reviewed the list.
ADJOURNMENT
And with no further business to discuss the meeting was adjourned at 7:48 p.m.
