March 26, 2015
The Regular Session of the Library Board of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called to
order at 7® p.m. on. the 266h day of March, 2015, at The Colony Public Library, 6800
Main Street., The Colony, Texas, with the following, r . call:

12 Review of 20 .0-2015 Long Range Plan; discusslon of'development of 2015-2020
Long Range Plan
The Board reviewed 'FUL's 2010-2015 long range plan; Director Sveinsson reported
that staff has made an initial review of the plan and presented the notes staff had made
far updating the plan. Board members, were encouraged to review the plan. and be
prepared to discuss ideas for the 2015-2020 plan at the April meeting.
33 Receive and discuss staff update regarding Friends ' the Library activities
FOTCP- L PRESENTS * 1 7 th Annual Great Magazine Swap102 people attended the
Magazine Swap., FOTCPL mernbers/officers, Jennifer Appel,, Wayne Bullard, Mac
Caldwell and Sandi Gehrke greeted visitors to the event and kept the isplay of
magazines organized.
Fundraising activities: To promote the Jackson -Shaw fundraising challenge, staff has
taken the spiral wi.shing wells to off-site events, FOTCPL sent a mailing to over 180
local businesses, requesting support, and The Clong team attempted 'to win $500 at
Little Elm Trivia event — tied for 3rd place and, won "Most Spi*rite d"' award — but no
money. F(')TCPL will take advantage of a trade-in special, as well as the CTLS, member
discount of free shipping. One or more Jackson-Sbaw represetitatives will. be at the
Fo,TCP L Annual Meeting. & Fun Night (Book Jeopardy is the Fun game), to present
final, check.
"Bag of Books," Sale: This promotion continues to be very popular and will continue
to the end of'the month.
FOTCPL PRESE-eNTS " I Fancy Nancy Tea Party: Ticket sales began on March 24 for
Tea which will be held on Saturday, April 18, from 2-3 p err . tickets are $5 per person -
participants should be at least 4 years ld and if under the age of 9, must be
accompanied by a caregiver age 1.2 or older.
F�OTCPL PRL4SEN TS! Annual Fun Night: The, Friends of the Library will host US
annual event on Saturday,, April 25; social begins at 6:30 p.m., the business meeting at 7
P.M., followed by the check presentation by the Jackson -Shaw Foundation. All
attendees will be invited to participate in Book. Jeopardy.
3.4 Receive and dioscuss staff plots regarding public relations events and programs:
ring Break Robotics Car ring Break Robotics Camp: The Sprinp was a great success.'
The Colony Courier Leader published a front-page report1n, the March 2.2, 2015 issue.
AARP Tax Help,- InFebruary, AARP Foundation Tax Help �volunteers helped 74 people

n, the community prepare and send in their Pecieral tax returns; CPL will continue to
host this, valuable service on, Wednesday evenings from 4-8 pm. t1il'ough April 15.
Computer T).-aiAli n,a Classes: The February.27 lntermed�late Word 2010 and March 13

Computer Basics classes brought in two participants each; upcoming classes are March
27 Internet & Computer Safety; April 10. Introduction to Microsoft Excel. 2010; and
April 24.- Intermediate Excel 201 0.
Ca_i d Bouquet Class: The March Candy, Bouquet class was full- the eleven

participants had a great time and were excited about their creations.
Scl*enceNI'gbt at Stewart's Creek School: On March. 19, Kansas Terry and Holly
Martin represented TCPL at Stewart Is Creek Elementary School's Science Night., They
signed up five new library cards and made contact with thirty-OA,o people.
Recycled Book Crafts,: This class brought in our participantsstaff is planning to have a
future version of this prograi-n as an adult class on a weekday morning.
Duct Tape Creations.- This class w1l]. be offered on Friday, March 27, at 2:30 p.m.;
children under the age of 9 mustbe accompanied by a supervising adult for this class.
Social Securl*ty Semihiar: The Social, Security Seminar that was canceled last month
,has been rescheduled f"or Tuesday, March 3 1, 7-8 p.m. - it �is sponsored by Edward Jones
Representative jerod W. Iraboille and presented, by Franklin Templeton Representative
Bryan Sullivan. No financial products will be sold. This informatlonal seminar is
designed for adults age 55 and older.
