HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/23/2012 KTCBMINUTES CITY OF THE COLONY KEEP THE COLONY BEAUTIFUL BOARD FEBRUARY 23, 2012 After determining that a quorum was present, the Keep The Colony Beautiful Board of the City of The Colony, Texas convened into a regular session which was held on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers located in City Hall, 6800 Main Street, The Colony, Texas, at which time the following items were addressed: Board Members Present: Linda Van Vranken, Joe Zacha, Raymond Ray, Alan Ladd, Peggy Chenault, and Ruby Lawrence. Board Members Absent: Curtis Hatherly Present from Staff. his Browder and Joe Perez. 1.0 1 CALL MEETING TO Chairman Van Vranken called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. INPUT Joe Zacha stated that he would like someone from Community Image to take a look at the trees hanging over the sidewalk in Stewart Peninsula, particularly on Harbor Drive. 3.1 A motion was made to approve the minutes from the January 26, 2012 meeting by board member Ladd and seconded by board member Zacha. Motion carried 6-0. 4.0 TION 4.1 Receive a presentation from Gary Zimmerman regarding the "Cache In Trash Out" event scheduled for April 14, 2012. Gary let the board view a video from the geocaching website (wwryv.aeocaching.com) which provided the board with an overview of what it is and how it is played. He stated that there are over 100 caches located in The Colony and provided the board with detail on the upcoming CITO event which is going to be held at Bill Allen Park. Gary stated that the event will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012 between 9am and Ilam and the plan is to clean up the tree line area at Bill Allen Park. 4.2 Discuss future educational programs on composting, rain water harvesting, Xeriscaping and lawn care maintenance to be held in May 2012. Linda informed the board of the two upcoming educational programs which will be held on May 5'h and May 19`h. She has a speaker lined up for the upcoming composting event on May 5v'. The class will entail watching a power point presentation on composting and then see one being built on site outside city hall. Linda is still working on looking for someone to teach the rail water harvesting class in the afternoon. The educational program will be held on May 19`h. Local master gardener, Donna Cole, will be conducting a Xeriscaping class to teach residents how to minimize the use of water by selecting drought resistant plants. She will also provide giveaways. Linda is still working on finalizing who will be teaching the lawn maintenance class in the afternoon. Linda stated that we will advertise the classes on the website, email subscription, newspaper, face book and twitter in order to inform the public of the upcoming events.
