HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/27/2014 KTCBMINUTES CITY OF THE COLONY KEEP THE COLONY BEAUTIFUL BOARD FEBRUARY 27, 2014 After determining that a quorum was present, the Keep The Colony Beautiful Board of the City of The Colony, Texas convened into a regular session which was held on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers located in City Hall, 6800 Main Street, The Colony, Texas, at which time the following items were addressed: Board Members Present: Linda Van Vranken, Peggy Chenault, Jatun Thompson, Dale Brewer, Janece Pool, Roger Morehouse Board Members Absent: Joe Zacha Staff Members Present: Joe Perez, Iris Browder 1.0 1 CALL MEETING TO ORDER Meeting called to order at 6:35pm 2.0 1 CITIZEN INPUT No citizen input. 3.0 1 MINUTES 3.1 Approve minutes from the January 30, 2014 meeting. Motion to approve the minutes was made by Board Member Pool, seconded by Vice Chairman Cbenault. (Motion passed 6-0) DISCUS SION/CONSIDERATION 4.1 Discuss holding an educational program on trees in April 2014. (Linda Van Vranken) Chairman Van Vranken did research and was hoping to host the class during Earth week in April, but due to schedule conflicts that date is not available. Chairman Van Vranken asked the board for their thoughts about having the class on May 29t". There were no issues so Chairman Van Vranken will move forward with scheduling a Texas Natural Master Gardener to come and talk about trees to put in The Colony that are not invasive and easy to plant. Vice Chairman Chenault asked if she would like a list of approved trees for their HOA's. Chairman Van Vranken said yes. Board Member Thompson asked who would conduct the class. Chairman Van Vranken said one of the Texas Master Gardner's, probably Donna Cole, from Denton Ag. Board Member Pool said she would also check with the Tribute to see what trees are allowed in their HOA. Mr. Perez said he will also look at the Code of Ordinance to get a list of prohibited trees and locations. Board Member Pool asked if there is a city commitment to plant so many trees. Mr. Perez said yes and that the Parks Department and CDC head that program. Board Member Thompson asked if we partner with nurseries around the area. Chairman Van Vranken said yes. We have a raffle with donations from Shades of Green. Chairman Van Vranken said she would get all of the information on the speaker and we can send out press releases. 4.2 Receive an update from staff regarding the 2013 Volunteer Assistance Projects. (Joe Perez) Mr. Perez informed the board that there were nineteen (19) volunteer projects in 2013. He stated that the Mayor and Council will continue to fund the program. There were more applications submitted in 2012 and 2013 due to the economic climate. Currently there are two (2) projects on the books for 2014, but that number should probably increase in late March.
