DISCUS SION/CONSIDERATION
4.1 Discuss holding an educational program on trees in April 2014. (Linda Van
Vranken)
Chairman Van Vranken did research and was hoping to host the class
during Earth week in April, but due to schedule conflicts that date is not
available. Chairman Van Vranken asked the board for their thoughts about
having the class on May 29t". There were no issues so Chairman Van
Vranken will move forward with scheduling a Texas Natural Master
Gardener to come and talk about trees to put in The Colony that are not
invasive and easy to plant.
Vice Chairman Chenault asked if she would like a list of approved trees for
their HOA's. Chairman Van Vranken said yes.
Board Member Thompson asked who would conduct the class. Chairman
Van Vranken said one of the Texas Master Gardner's, probably Donna Cole,
from Denton Ag.
Board Member Pool said she would also check with the Tribute to see what
trees are allowed in their HOA.
Mr. Perez said he will also look at the Code of Ordinance to get a list of
prohibited trees and locations.
Board Member Pool asked if there is a city commitment to plant so many
trees. Mr. Perez said yes and that the Parks Department and CDC head that
program.
Board Member Thompson asked if we partner with nurseries around the
area. Chairman Van Vranken said yes. We have a raffle with donations
from Shades of Green.
Chairman Van Vranken said she would get all of the information on the
speaker and we can send out press releases.
4.2 Receive an update from staff regarding the 2013 Volunteer Assistance Projects.
(Joe Perez)
Mr. Perez informed the board that there were nineteen (19) volunteer
projects in 2013. He stated that the Mayor and Council will continue to fund
the program. There were more applications submitted in 2012 and 2013 due
to the economic climate. Currently there are two (2) projects on the books
for 2014, but that number should probably increase in late March.
Meeting adjourned 6:58pm.
