HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/14/2014 CDC August 14,2014 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SESSION OF THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION AUGUST 14th 2014 The Regular Session of The Community Development Corporation of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called to order at 7:30 p.m. on the 14th day of August 2014, at City Hall, 6800 Main Street, The Colony, Texas, with the following roll call: Stephen Sohn President Present Pam Nelson- Staff Kathy Braby Vice President Present Eve Morgan- Staff Lisa Leary Secretary Present Kathy Neal - Staff Donna Cole Member Present Don Beckel Treasurer Present Richard Boyer, Council Liaison Susana Perez Member Present Allen Harris Member Present And with all board members present a quorum was established and the following items were addressed: 1.0 ROUTINE ANNOUNCEMENTS, RECOGNITIONS Call to Order Pledge of Allegiance to the United States Flag Salute to the Texas Flag Announcements of upcoming civic events and activities 1— Sunset Concert Series— This event is tomorrow night at Stewart Creek Park; The Creek Band is performing. Back to School Bash— This event is on Tuesday, August 19`h at the Rec Center from 5:00—8:00 and is free for residents and$3 for non-residents. It is for kids ages PreK through 8th grade. Pre-registration is required. Movie in the Park— "Free Birds"will be shown at Five Star on Friday, Sept. 5th at 8:OOp.m. Citizen Input—None. 2.0 CONSENT AGENDA 2.1 Consider approval of minutes of June 12th Regular Session, July St Special Joint Work Session, July 10th Regular Session and July 31St Special Session. Allen's name was left off the minutes of the July 10`h and July 315`meetings; he was present at both meetings. 2.3 Consider acceptance of the CDC financial reports for July 2014. Motion to approve the consent agenda with correction to the July 10th and July 31s` minutes — Harris; second—Leary; motion passes with all ayes. 1 August 14,2014 3.0 REGULAR AGENDA ITEMS 3.1 Discussion and action to be taken as a result of the preceding Joint Work Session with City Council-- • Policy regarding new landscaping and irrigation projects during drought/watering restrictions • Proposed CIP Projects and equipment to be funded in 2014-15 • Dog Park location and funding • Veteran's Memorial Master Plan--. funding • Lions Club Pond Project and silt disposal options • Proposed Stewart Creek Park enhancements • Cultural Arts Master Plan revisions Discussion of the Cultural Arts Master Plan revisions was tabled during the Joint Work Session with City Council because the Mayor was unable to attend that meeting. No action was taken as a result of the Joint Work Session with City Council. 3.2 Receive update from staff and discuss the following items - • Human Sundial Memorial Project— The engraving of the stones started today, the sign has been ordered, and we hope to break ground on the project in one week. We should have a date for the dedication ceremony at the September meeting. • Park Loop Trail— Construction will start on August 18th and should take 120 days to complete. The section by Squires was 8ft. but was reduced to 6 ft., so we will get a deduction for that. Atmos will reimburse us for tearing up the trail. • Perryman Parking Lot Expansion— Plans should be complete by the end of the month so we can go out for bid in late August or early September. We will try to find a contractor that can complete this before Christmas, but if we can't we will wait until after the holidays to do the project. • Bridges Cemetery Master Plan— This History Committee created this plan; Eve asked the board to read the plan and send her their ideas if they have any. The plan will be submitted to City Council, Denton County Historical Society, the Bridges Family and some state agencies. The board said the committee did an outstanding job on this document. • Stewart Creek Park Improvements— Pam and Eve met with John Spencer from Childs Play and discussed comments about the playground designs presented at the July 315`meeting.
