HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 2014-040 RESOLUTION NO. 2014-40 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS, SUPPORTING REFORM OF THE UNITED STATES VETERANS ADMINISTRATION IN ORDER TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE HEALTH CARE TO OUR NATIONS' VETERANS; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, The United States Inspector General's interim report on patient wait times, scheduling practices, and alleged patient deaths at Phoenix Health Care System and the results of the Veterans' Administration's face-to-face audit has raised a number of issues that must be addressed immediately; and WHEREAS, reform of the Veterans' Administration Health Care System is necessary to correct inadequacies within the system in order to support Veterans' Health Care; and WHEREAS, reform should include authorization to hire new medical personnel, closing the gap between a growing number of veterans returning home to seek care and the number of health care professionals able to deliver it; and WHEREAS, reform should allow an increase in the number of locations delivering care by establishing new Veterans' Health Care facilities, and by providing for a method by which those needing immediate care are able to seek interim services at a private institution; and WHEREAS, reform should include funding necessary to address long-term issues such as personnel training, and support services such as investing in technologically advanced medical equipment and updated scheduling software. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of The Colony, Texas supports any proposed legislation that will improve health care to veterans by encouraging strong ethical leadership, providing greater transparency, and implementing reforms that refocus the United States Veterans Administration on it primary mission of providing timely access to consistently high-quality health care. SECTION 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately from and after its passage, as the law and charter in such cases provide. 1 DULY PASSED and approved by the City Council of the City of The Colony, Texas, on this the 17th day of June 2014.
