MINUTES OF SPECIAL SESSION OF
THE COLONY TREE ADVISORY BOARD
HELD ON APRIL 11, 2013
The Regular Session of The Community Development Corporation of the City of The
Colony, Texas, was called to order at 8:32 p.m. on the 11"' day of April 2013, at City
Hall, 6800 Main Street, The Colony, Texas, with the following roll call:

And with six board members present a quorum was established and the following items
were addressed:
1.0 ROUTINE ANNOUNCEMENTS, RECOGNITIONS
Call to Order
Citizen Input - None.
2.0 CONSENT AGENDA
2.1 Consider approval of minutes of December 13t' 2012 -
Motion to approve the minutes Sohn; second - Beckel; abstain - Cole; motion passes.
3.0 REGULAR AGENDA ITEMS
3.1 Arbor Day Proclamation -
The board has a copy of the proclamation that will be read at the City Council meeting
Tuesday night. A representative from the Texas Forest Service will be there to present
the Tree City USA award to City Council. We also received a flag and some S year sign
attachments to add to our existing tree city signs. The board was invited and encouraged
to attend the meeting.
3.2 Discussion of Arbor Day event -
The 511' grade students from Stewart Creek Elementary School will walk to
Carr/Chapman Park to participate in the event. Lindsey, Special Events Coordinator,
will have a craft for the kids to do, there will be a tree identification activity, Courtney
from the Texas Forest Service will be there to talk to the kids, each student will be given
a sapling and a Parks & Rec. employee will show them how to plant and take care of it,
and the kids will plant 5 trees in the park. The board is invited and encouraged to attend.

3.3 Update on Historical Park tree plantings -
Mexican Buckeye, Texas Mountain Laurel, and Chase (Vitex) trees were planted. These
trees are slow growing, drought tolerant, and can grow to 20ft. in ideal conditions and
they were on the list of approved trees provided by the utility company. The trees came
from a nursery in San Antonio. As the trees mature they will not interfere with the
holiday lighting.
3.4 Board to request items to be placed on future meeting agendas -
There was discussion about having a tree care class in the fall, doing a tree inventory
and entering the information onto the Tree North Texas website, and ways to inform
residents about this website thru the City and CDC websites and by including
information on the water bills.
With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:51 p.m.
