4.0 DISCUSSION/CONSIDERATION
4.1 Discuss the use of compostable lawn bags. (Terry Gilman)
Mr. Gilman explained to the Board that he was approached by a vendor
about using a different type of compostable mesh bag instead of the standard
craft bag. He stated that the type of bag is similar to what is currently being
used, except they don't disintegrate in the rain and the cost is about the same.
Although Allied is okay with new bags and would pick them up, Mr. Gilman
stated he is still waiting on the official letter from Living Earth to see if the
new bags would be acceptable. In the meantime he asked the board to try
them out to see if they are something they would like to use. Mr. Gilman said
he would check back with the board at the next meeting to get their
feedback.
4.2 Receive a report on the outcome of the 2013 Spring Cleanup. (Terry Gilman)
Mr. Gilman provided with the board with the results of the Spring cleanup
which was held on Saturday, April 13. Mr. Gilman stated that the spring
cleanup is always bigger than the fall and this year was no exception. The
same services were offered as in the Fall.
The results were as follows:
Over five hundred (500) vehicles came through the line, some two (2) or (3)
times. Eighty five (85) tons of bulky trash was collected. A record amount of
electronics was collected totaling 12,651 pounds in which the city receives five
(5) cents a pound for electronics totaling ($635.00). Thirteen (13) tons of
green waste, twenty-seven (27) appliances, seventy-two (72) tires and twenty
(20) car batteries, and six (6) tons of metal was collected. There was 9,400
pounds of documents that were shredding. This was a record number for the
cleanup and Cintas had to bring in another truck due to the amount of
documents that were shredded.
Board Member Chenault asked Mr. Gilman if he was keeping the same
system as before. Mr. Gilman said yes that he was keeping the same system,
with some minor tweaking. He stated that he is working on adding some
signage at the next cleanup to tell people exactly where to go when bringing
items through the line.
4.3 Discuss city email addresses for board members.
Mrs. Browder informed the board that they have been assigned city issued
email address at the direction of Council. This will allow board members to
not have to use their personal email address for city business. Mrs. Browder

stated that all future correspondence will be sent to the city issued email
address.
