HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/29/98 Library Board MINUTES OF THE LIBRARY BOARD OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY OCTOBER 29, 1998 A REGULAR SESSION of the Library Board of the City of The Colony, Texas, was called to order by Chair Parks at 7:04 p.m. Present: Sandri Gehrke Place 1 Diana Kruzich Place 2 James Althaus Place 3 Jayme Skelton Place 5 Sue Parks Place 7 Joan L. Sveinsson Library Director Jo Chantrill Library Secretary Absent: Lorraine Clark Place4 (Business) 1. Citizen's Input. None. 2. The minutes of the September 17, 1998 meeting were approved. Consideration of approval of minutes of the board meeting held April 23, 1998, April 30, 1998, May 23, 1998, July 23, 1998, and August 27, 1998, was tabled. 3. Reports: 3.1. Chairman The members of the Board discussed the holiday meeting schedule. It was decided to hold the November meeting on the third Thursday and to cancel the December meeting. 3.2. NTRLS System Representative NTRLS has hired a part time grant writer. 3.3. Library Director: · Director Sveinsson briefed the Board on the progress of the building project. Board members reviewed the furniture plan prepared by Library Consultant Carol Brown. Director Sveinsson had the dimensions for the trolley car; when compared to the floor plan, it is apparent that the trolley is too large to fit inside the Library. Plans for the design of the circulation desk and the areas behind the desk and in the circulation workroom were reviewed. Carol Brown will be providing cost estimates for the additional furniture and shelving needed. These estimates will be useful in preparing proposals for funding from such sources as the 4B Board. · The Windows-based library automation software has been received, as have the replacement computers for the public access workstations. Installation is planned for November. -- · Director Sveinsson is planning to submit an application for a TIF grant to upgrade and expand the Library's public access Internet service. · Director Sveinsson met with the Lions Club regarding prospective projects the Lions and Leos could do in support of the Library. · Board Members were asked to note the following dates: · November 7th: Library Work Party (volunteer workers needed). · November 12th: City Volunteer Dinner · November 19th: next Library Board meeting. · Board members were reminded that the Friends of the Library pie sale has begun. 3.4.
