4.0 DISCUSSION/CONSIDERATION
4.1 Receive an update regarding the outcome of the Spring Citywide Cleanup.
Terry provided the board with details on the outcome of the Spring Citywide
Cleanup. He stated that there were 500 vehicles that came through the line
at the cleanup. There were 260 tons of bulky material removed and 15,500
pounds of electronics and miscellaneous items collected, and 25 tons of brush
was composted. Terry stated that this cleanup produced a lot of green waste,
partly due to the fact that we have had such good weather.
Peggy complemented Terry on how smooth everything ran on the cleanup
day and thought everyone did a good job.
4.2 Receive an update regarding the Volunteer Assistance Projects (VAP) conducted
in March 2012.
Joe Perez showed the board before and after pictures of projects that took
place in March. Lakeway Baptist Church, AI's Hugs and Hammers,
including other individuals were the volunteers who helped with the projects.
A majority of the work conducted stemmed for active community image
cases. The volunteer's duties included helping homeowners repair fences,
mow grass, clean up trash and tree and shrub trimming. Joe has seen an
increase in VAP projects due to the fact that when code violations are open
the Community Image Officers are including a copy of the VAP brochure
which lets homeowners know that the city can provide assistance if needed.
4.3 Receive an update regarding the outcome of the CITO event held April 14, 2012.
Iris Browder provided the board with an overview on the outcome of the
CITO event which was held at Bill Allen Memorial Park. She stated that
there were over forty volunteers who came out to participate and there were
two truckloads of trash removed from the park, including pieces of a boat.
Given that this was the first time The Colony participated in this event, it
turned out to be very successful.
4.4 Receive an update regarding the outcome of the Keep The Colony Beautiful
educational events held on May 5, 2012 and May 19, 2012.
Chairman Van Vranken provided the board with an update on the outcome
of the events held in May. A composting class was held on May 5th, 2012 and
a Xeriscaping class was presented by Donna Cole at the May 19th event.
Although attendance was low, she feels getting the word out more to
residents that these classes are free and open to the public will increase
attendance in the future. She plans to put together additional educational
programs for the public in the Fall.
