THE COLONY TREE ADVISORY BOARD
SPECIAL SESSION
APRIL 12TH 2012

1. CITIZEN'S INPUT-
None.
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF DECEMBER 8TH 2011-
Motion to approve the minutes - Sohn; second - Beckel; motion passes with all ayes.
3. DISCUSSION OF ARBOR DAY EVENT-
This event is on May 3"d at Slay/Baker Park and 5"' graders from Morningside Elementary School will be
participating. There will be tree related activities for the kids to do, a local Texas Forestry agent will be
there and we will have a presentation of the Tree City Award. An Arbor Day proclamation will be made at
the May P City Council meeting.
4. DISCUSSION OF 2012 WORK PLAN AND GOALS -
This workplan was submitted with the Tree City application. Keith has spoken to Mike Joyce, Director of
Development Services, and was told that many tree ordinances are going to be revised. Keith has been doing
research to create information brochures about trees to have on hand at various city facilities and online.
The plan also shows the number of tree plantings, pruning and removals for the year, the number of Tree
Board meetings, the number of volunteer hours, and Keith will work with the city GIS staff to create a tree
inventory for the parks.
5. RECEIVE REPORT ON TREES REMOVED WITH PHASE IV STREET RECONSTRUCTION
PROJECT-
To date, 20 trees, 12 inches or larger, have been removed from Clover Valley. Trees to be removed are
indicated on the construction plans. Residents are sent a letter to sign if they want to save a tree or remove a
tree; if they sign the letter stating they want to save a tree, then they are responsible for the tree maintenance
and removal if the tree dies. There were 12 trees identified for removal on Avery and the city received 9
letters to remove trees and on Strickland there were 37 trees identified for removal and the city has received
18 letters to remove trees. A total of 80 trees were identified for removal on the plans. These trees will be a
part of the Tree City application.
There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
