HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/02/2012 CAB May 2, 2012 The Colony City Hall, 7:02 pm CITY OF THE COLONY DENTON COUNTY, TEXAS MINUTES OF THE CULTURAL ARTS BOARD OF THE CITY OF THE COLONY May 2, 2012 A REGULAR SESSION of the Cultural Arts Board of the City of The Colony was called to order by Chair Costa at 7:02 pm PRESENT: Liz Ripperger Place 2 Donna Arnold Place 3 Gail Kasek Place 4 Joan Lux Place 5 Kathy Costa Place 6 Casey Kidwell Place 7 ABSENT: Robert Bourbon Place 1 1. Call to Order Meeting was called to order at 7:04 pm 2. Chair Report and Announcements a. Announcements b. None 3. Liaison Reports a. Council Liaison None b. Staff Liaison Evan Groeschel handed clothing catalogs out to the board for shirt selection. 4. Citizen Input This time is set aside for citizens to address the Cultural Arts Board regarding items that are or are not posted on the regular agenda. Those persons wishing to address the Board must sign in on the Citizen's Input form prior to the start of the meeting. Christi Martin - Gave a report to the board of upcoming events. Teresa Martin - Read a self drafted letter to the board that expressed concern for abuse of city employees and volunteers. 5. Minutes a. Consideration of approval of the minutes of the Cultural Arts Board meeting held April 4, 2012. May 2, 2012 The Colony City Hall, 7:02 pm Motion by Lux to approve minutes. Second by Arnold. Unanimously Approved. b. Consideration of approval of the minutes of the Cultural Arts Board Special Session meeting held April 18, 2012. Motion by Arnold to approve minutes. Second by Lux. Unanimously Approved. 6. Budget Update (Staff) Staff Liaison Groeschel went over the updated budget sheet with the Board. 7. Update on Mini Events (the ones we have left) 1. Jammin' in the Park Ripperger gave an update to the board about the upcoming event for May 18. 2. Film Festival Costa gave a report to the board that planning for this event is in progress. 3. Holiday Choir Ripperger stated to the board that she and board member Bourbon are continuing to plan this event. 8. Receive presentation and discuss on updated master plan on Kids Colony 2 Playground (Parks and Recreation Staff) Keith Helms from the Parks and Recreation Department gave a presentation to the board over the Kids Colony 2 Master Plan and progress. In his presentation he showed a power point he showed illustrations of the playground and encouraged the Cultural Arts Board to participate in public art selection. 9. Discussion regarding the CAMP steering committee meeting. Lux gave a report and summary of the Cultural Arts Master Plan steering committee meeting to the board. 10. Discussion and possible action on purchases needed for next year's budget. (Costa) The Board revisited previously identified possibilities of purchases for next year's budget. 11. Discussion and possible action on altering the Cultural Arts Board operating calendar to coincide with the city of The Colony's fiscal year, October 1 - September 30. Motion by Arnold to approve changing the Cultural Arts Board operating calendar to coincide with the city of The Colony's fiscal year, October 1 - September 30. Second by Kasek. Unanimously Approved. 12. Board to provide direction to staff regarding future agenda items. Chair Costa directed staff to add an agenda item to discuss and entertain possible action on the purchase of shirts for the Cultural Arts Board. In addition Chair Costa directed staff to add agenda items for event planning and budget planning for 2013. 13.
