1. RECEIVE PUBLIC INPUT ON PROPOSED 4B PROJECTS.
The Public Hearing was called to order at 7:00 p.m.
Carol Campbell, 7124 Longo Dr. - Supports getting a new aquatic center ASAP. The
Colony facility is inadequate. We do not have a meter pool or diving boards and having a
competitive pool would be an advantage for the city, especially now that we have places
for people to stay. She is part of the high school swim team organization.
Jeff Kracke, 5940 Sandhill Circle - He would like to see a competitive pool ASAP - as
part of the initial phase. He thinks we should work with the school district for a
competitive pool. There would be a large amount of revenue if we had a competitive
pool.
Michelle Kracke, 5940 Sandhill Circle - We need a facility to support all the swim
teams. Many people attend swim meets. This would bring revenue to the city. She
would like to see the school district partner with the city to address the funding issue.
She is part of the swim team organization.
Vicki Magness, 4412 North Colony Blvd., - She thinks a new aquatic facility should be
a priority and we should partner with the school district to make it happen. She has been
associated with the high school swim team and club teams for a long time. She has heard
for years we would have a new aquatic facility. She also believes soccer fields are
needed.
Don Beckel, 3724 Juniper Circle - He said there are several items needed to enhance
our community - soccer fields, baseball fields, inline rink and aquatics to name a few.
On the Turco Survey, hike & bike trails along the shoreline scored high. Hike & bike
trails are something that everyone can use. They can be hooked up with Lewisville and
Plano; they would enhance the city's image. They would be used by bikers, walkers and
even inline skaters. To put hike & bike trails along the lake has advantages.
Tim Baggett, 4901 Pemberton - He supports having an aquatic park for competitive
swimming. The pool can be used everyday of the year for. Athletic fields have a limited
amount of time that they are used. We have waited for the second phase of the pool for a
very long time. He would like to see a new facility built all at once, does not want it done
in phases. We should have a commitment to the swim team. Having a natatorium would
allow us to have state and regional tournaments. He is also a part of the high school
swim team organization.
Tony Seiler, 5961 Carroll Dr. - We need to offer something to young people. A new
aquatic park should a have competitive size pool with a diving area. This facility would
be inviting to all kids.
Cindi Lane, 5105 Pemberton - Thinks any decision made should be based on the
results of the Turco Survey. It is important to evaluate the input from the citizens. She
thinks we need more ball fields, parking, and also making additions to the pool. An
additional outdoor pool would allow us to provide more lessons, more practice time for
the MCATS and Blue Wave, lap swim, free swim and aerobics. According to the Turco
Survey, 4 out of 5 people are in favor of an additional pool. She would also like to see
hike & bike trails.
Sandy Shanholtzer, 5112 Pruitt Dr. - She is president of the MOATS. A new aquatic
facility would take some pressure off of the current facility. Right now the pool is
overcrowded and can't accommodate the needs of the community. Parents can't even get
their children in swimming lessons because they are booked up. We have been in phase
one for 10-15 years. She would like to see the city and school district fund a new facility.
We could easily have a year round swim team if we had a bigger facility.
James Althaus, 5409 Sager - He would like the board to consider a library. He realizes
the city does not own enough land and a library does not need to be the number one
priority, he'll be patient to wait for a new one. Build a pool first.
Paul Newman, 4403 Nervin - He has spoken to many of his neighbors and they would
like to see hike & bike trails ASAP.
President King adjourned the public hearing at 8:00 p.m.
Kathy Neal, ecording Secretary Susan King, President
